Excalibur è la spada magica, simbolo del potere reale, \"forgiata da un dio, annunciata da un mago, trovata da un re\". Il regista rievoca la leggenda del re Artu\', nato da Uther e da Igrayne, e sottratto ancora in fasce alla madre dal mago Merlino, per essere preparato alla grande impresa di estrarre la spada magica, \"Excalibur\", conficcata in una roccia. Molti cavalieri vi hanno tentato inutilmente. L\'impresa riesce al giovane Artù, il quale è proclamatore. Finiscono così, nel regno, sanguinose lotte e divisioni; svaniscono anche i sortilegi della magia a inizia l\'epopea dei cavalieri della Tavola rotonda. Ma la passione del più forte dei cavalieri, Lancillotto, per la regina Ginevra, passione ricambiata, e il contrasto con il re ingannato e tradito, aprono la seconda parte della vicenda di Artù, nella quale sulla magia buona di Merlino prevale la magia cattiva di Morgana, che scatena tutte le forze infernali, stravolge gli ideali cavallereschi e porta alla morte i cavalieri partiti alla ricerca del santo Graal, il calice nel quale Cristo ha celebrato l\'eucaristia e dove è stato raccolto il suo sangue. Dei cavalieri della Tavola rotonda solo Parsifal, per la sua pura fede, riesce ad impossessarsi del Santo Graal. Frattanto Artù, desiderando di ristabilire l\'ordine e la pace nel suo regno, scende in guerra contro Mordred, il figlio bastardo che ha avuto da Morgana e che la perfida megera ha aizzato contro il padre. Invano Merlino interviene con le sue arti magiche in favore di Artù. Il re è ferito a morte. La spada Excalibur, raccolta da Parsifal, viene gettata in un lago, e, afferrata dalla mano di una ninfa, è custodita in attesa di un nuovo re, degno di impugnarla.

Original Air Date???15 November 2008 The Black Knight arrives to interrupt Arthur's coming-of-age celebrations and throws down the gauntlet to any knight who will fight him. He kills them all. Gaius discovers that he is Uther's dead brother-in-law, summoned from the grave by the witch Nimueh, and he is seeking revenge for the death of his sister, who died giving birth to Arthur. He intends to fight and kill the young prince. Merlin learns from the Great Dragon that only a special sword, burnished with the Dragon's fiery breath can kill the knight, and that sword is Excalibur. However, the Dragon tells Merlin that only Arthur can successfully wield it and Arthur has been drugged and locked in his room with his father preparing to take on the knight.

This torrent contains a complete set of all the stories involving the Marvel Comics super hero team Excalibur that were published during the time period covered in Excalibur v1. Excalibur is a Marvel Comics superhero group, an offshoot of the X-Men, usually based in the United Kingdom. Conceived by writer Chris Claremont and artist/co-writer Alan Davis, the original Excalibur first appeared in Excalibur: The Sword is Drawn (1987). The first Excalibur consisted of the British superhero Captain Britain, his lover Meggan, and several onetime members of the X-Men and related mutant teams. An eponymous series featuring the team lasted from 1988 until 1998. Originally, it was a wacky series involving cross-dimensional travel that incorporated as many elements of Captain Britain?s mythos as it did the X-Men?s. This is by far the best Arthurian film offering - sure, sure it gets a bit loopy with the Quest for the Grail, but I'm pretty sure such a Quest would involve some loopiness. The acting is v. good given the material, the atmosphere is strong and the use of Wagner is, at times, inspired. Oh, and there's no Richard Gere looking purty...
