Run the application, set the TCP connection limit to your choice: 56K:x DSL:80 ADSL:150 ASDL2:245 CABLE+: 300-500 Those are my recommended settings, but tweak them as needed. If you are a bittorrent user that finds that you need to see more connection attempts with peers who are trying to connect with you, and fewer connection error attempts with keeping your tracker updated, this patch might well work for you. Windows XP users who have service pack 2 installed may have difficulties especially because the number of maximum simultaneous connection attempts is set at just 10. In the Options section of the great Azureus bittorrent software you'll see that you could theoretically increase to 100 if your operating system allowed you to, by simply resetting that number. We suggest you might want to experiment with a slight increase to say 20 or so and go from there. This patch may be used to increase or decrease the number depending on your experience with it. Re-boot your system each time the number is re-set and make the corresponding change in your p2p software as well(we use Azureus exclusively). This patch is posted at one of their user boards and has some additional information you should first read before trying (see separate text files and info url). You should note that during the patching process Windows will ask you to confirm whether to use the new file that is installed for TCP/IP connectivity or restore the original from the windows disc. You should accept the new file even if you set the number of connections back to 10 if need be. This number refers to simultaneous outgoing connection attempts rather than the total number of open connections. you should be clear on that little detail. If you are not faint hearted I think you'll find the procedure worth trying, otherwise leave it to the pros I suppose. The patch was written for a reason, and Azureus can support more simultaneous connection attempts for a reason too - it would improve connectivity performance. However You should try going up slowly and see how your system takes to the new number till your system is finally tweaked to where it serves the community best. Michael chessman
