Rappresentante fiero dell’horror anni 70, il film di Dennis Donnelly narra le gesta di un pazzo maniaco sciroccato che di giorno usa i ferri del mestiere per procurarsi il pane e di notte per procurarsi il sangue. Infatti massacra la gente con sparachiodi, martelli, pinze e tutto l’armamentario del piccolo fabbro. Come era uso a quei (bei) tempi le immagini lasciano poco all’immaginazione e lo splatter scorre a fiumi.<br /> <br /> Per cui vediamo l’assassino incappucciato che si diverte a torturare le sue vittime in tutta la loro agonia. L’aspetto dell’assassino molto comune (in pratica vestito da ladro con il passamontagna in testa) contribuisce a rendere più reale il senso di pericolo, a differenza di altri colleghi più famosi che difficilmente sembrano plausibili (non vediamo tutti i giorni gente che va in giro con una maschera da hockey o la faccia di qualcun’altro addosso).<br /> Diversamente da molti film del genere però cerca di creare una sua storia e di violentare anche psicologicamente lo spettatore. Insomma una carrellata di violenza che lo portò ad essere tra quei film banditi per anni dalla visione sia in America che in Inghilterra.
