Se, però, il tentativo di rifare “Sciarada” (1963) di Stanley Donen dava vita all’opaco, pedestre “The Truth about Charlie” (2002), la nuova versione di “The Manchurian Candidate” (1962) di John Frankenheimer ha maggiori frecce al proprio arco. Adattando ai mutati tempi il romanzo di partenza di Richard Condon, Demme ipotizza che non sia più una nefasta alleanza fra comunisti e falchi della reazione a minacciare la democrazia americana oggi, bensì il molto più avvertito potere delle multinazionali.<br /> <br /> Le immagini del conflitto in Kuwait, in apertura, ci proiettano immediatamente nel cuore della vicenda: il maggiore dell’esercito Bennett Marco (Denzel Washington, nel ruolo che fu di Frank Sinatra) è tormentato da incubi ricorrenti. Egli conosce il valore dimostrato dal proprio plotone durante Desert Storm e, in particolare, l’eroismo del sergente Raymond Shaw, insignito della medaglia d’onore per aver salvato i propri compagni: sa che queste cose sono avvenute, ma non riesce a ricordare il momento esatto del loro svolgersi. Mentre si fa vivo con lui uno dei membri del plotone di stanza di allora, il caporale Al Melvin, afflitto dalle medesime visioni, Shaw è imposto dalla madre - la potente senatrice Eleanor Prentiss Shaw – come candidato alla vicepresidenza del paese. E’ a questo punto che Marco comincia a sospettare che egli ed i propri uomini siano stati sottoposti ad un trattamento teso a modificarne reazioni e personalità, al fine di favorire un qualche oscuro disegno…<br /> <br /> Lasciamo agli spettatori ignari dei successivi sviluppi il piacere della sorpresa, limitandoci a qualche osservazione. Demme ha avuto un’idea felice nel non identificare il partito nel quale militano Shaw e la madre, quasi a volerne sottolineare l’intercambiabilità in epoca di predominio dei potentati economici. Ugualmente interessante è il fatto di presentare l’opportunità di fabbricare candidati non in guisa di proiezione futuribile d’uno scenario orwelliano, bensì come una possibilità attuabile concretamente. E’, poi, assai piacevole l’aria un po’ datata, da thriller d’impegno civile degli anni ’70 - si pensa a “Perché un assassinio” (1974) di Alan J.Pakula od a “I tre giorni del Condor” (1975) di Sydney Pollack – che circola per tutto il film, facendone (come è stato scritto da più parti) un lavoro più esplicitamente politico di “Fahrenheit 9/11”. La regia elegante ed ispirata di Demme è ben servita da un eccellente cast: al già citato e validissimo Denzel Washington, si affiancano Liev Schreiber – un Raymond Shaw sempre credibile nella sua duplicità emotiva – e l’impagabile Meryl Streep, che mescola con cattiveria i tratti della donna di potere con quelli della madre padrona in un ritratto del quale non serve fantasia per indovinare i modelli d’ispirazione reali.<br /> <br /> Visit this link: http://www.shareimmage.com/fx_images/maxmalu6601_2f4cf1673a9e.jpg!!
