Kurt Steiner. When the Nazi high command learns in late 1943 that Winston Churchill will be spending time at a country estate in Norfolk, it hatches an audacious scheme to kidnap the prime minister and spirit him to Germany for enforced negotiations with Der FA1hrer. Heinrich Himmler (Donald Pleasence) assigns Col. Max Radl (Robert Duvall) to mastermind the operaton. He enlists the aid of Steiner, who has been imprisoned for subordination and is awaiting sentence, by offering him a chance to save his life. Liam Devlin (Donald Sutherland), an IRA lifer who hates the British, also signs on for the mission. Steiner and his commando team parachute into the small village of Sudley disguised as Polish soldiers and appear to the populace to be paratroopers running through exercises. As they await the arrival of Churchill, one of the commandos rescues a boy from drowning in a nearby river, inadvertently revealing his Nazi colors in the process. Steiner realizes that some changes will have to made in his timetable. THE EAGLE HAS LANDED is an enjoyable Alistair MacLean-like mission impossible, ably served by Sturges and a stellar cast.

“The Eagle Has Landed”, primo album live dei Saxon datato 1982, rappresenta uno dei dischi pi� trascinanti nella storia del gruppo,i Saxon rappresentano, tra i pochi bassi e i molti alti, una delle band di heavy metal pi� rispettate del pianeta. Un po’ per la forte personalit� e presenza scenica del mastodontico singer “Biff” Byford, un po’ per la filosofia che tenacemente li ha accompagnati fin dagli esordi (una filosofia che si pu� riassumere dal titolo di una delle loro canzoni pi� recenti: “I’ve Got To Rock (To Stay Alive)”, e molto per la qualit� generale della loro musica. Formatisi nell’ormai lontano 1976 i nostri hanno sbagliato veramente poco nella loro carriera (musicalmente parlando) e un ottimo modo per avvicinarsi a questo storico gruppo � acquistare appunto questo grande live che ha l’unica pecca di durare veramente troppo poco. Pur non essendo la registrazione di un singolo concerto, ma un mix di pi� canzoni tratte dal tour europeo di quell’anno, “The Eagle Has Landed” non perde nulla quanto a coinvolgimento e partecipazione.
L’opener “Motorcycle Man” � introdotta (chi l’avrebbe mai detto?) da un rombo di motociclette apparentemente sfreccianti a velocit� folle che, in mezzo a un pubblico osannante, lascia in breve posto allo storico riff di apertura. “Motorcycle man” � i Saxon: incredibilmente coinvolgente e trascinante al punto che ancor oggi, dopo averla ascoltata uno o due milioni di volte, riesco a malapena a trattenermi cercando di non rendermi troppo ridicolo davanti al mio figlioletto. Seguono poi i grandi cavalli di battaglia dei nostri, riproposti ancora nei concerti di oggi senza cedimenti: “747 (Strangers in the Night”), “Princess of the Night”, “Strong Arm of the Law”, “Heavy Metal Thunder” e la repentina “20,000 FT”.
