Gli Albi del Falco costituiscono la più importante e longeva serie supereroica del dopoguerra, contando ben 574 numeri (anche se dal N°529 aveva cambiato nome in Superman Nembo Kid) in circa 13 anni di permanenza in edicola.
La collana esordisce il 16/05/54 come pubblicazione quattordicinale, con un formato tascabile di 12,5x18 cm per sole 32 pagine. Questo formato era identico a quello di una testata di sicuro successo: gli Albi della Rosa che pubblicavano materiale Disney. Questo permetteva alla Mondadori di distribuire le spese fisse (taglio, confezione) sulle due collane e di mantenere quindi il prezzo più basso, appena 20 lire. Nei primi 30 albi l\"unico super-eroe presente è Superman, che qui viene chiamato Nembo Kid. Probabilmente non sapremo mai l\"origine di questo nome, ma di certo fu utilizzato per pagare meno i diritti sul personaggio, il cui marchio è depositato in tutto il mondo. Questo però creà non pochi problemi ai traduttori ed ai grafici italiani, costretti a minuziosi lavori di correzione delle copertine e delle vignette per eliminare la S dal petto e dal mantello, che cosi riportavano solo uno scudo vuoto (che nei primi albi era rosso, poi dal N°19 diventa giallo). Inoltre i traduttori avevano il loro da fare per cercare di rendere i tanti giochi di parole che gli autori americani facevano con il nome di Superman. Ecco quindi inventati gli Ultra-poteri (anzichè i super-poteri), e tutte le altre cose correlate che divenivano ultra invece che super. Nei primi periodi c\"era anche poca cura nelle supervisioni, tanto che i personaggi (soprattutto i cattivi) cambiavano di nome da un albo all\"altro, ad esempio Prankster chiamato prima Tabor (N°10), poi Pagliaccio (N°20), poi Beffeggiatore (N°43) ed infine BURLone (nome tra l\"altro già usato per altri 2 personaggi!). Tutti i comprimari di Superman sono già presenti fin dalla prima storia (ma del resto lo erano quasi tutti già nelle prime storie americane), e sono chiamati con i nomi originali americani o qualcosa di molto simile, come per Luisa Lane (anzichè Lois), Jimmy Olsen, Perry White e naturalmente Clark Kent. Il disegnatore principe dei primi albi è Wayne Boring, che disegna quasi tutte le storie di Superman presentate. Qui è sicuramente nel suo periodo migliore con ancora una buona dinamica e con paesaggi decisamente futuristici. Il suo Superman era davvero un eroe \"monoblocco\" dal torace possente e dalla forte muscolatura. Altro disegnatore molto presente in quel periodo, e quasi fino alla fine della serie, era Al Plastino, che faceva un superman talmente massiccio che, più che muscoloso, pareva piuttosto sovrappeso....
Con il N°31 la collana si riduce di dimensioni a soli cm 12x16,5 (con 36 pagine ed il prezzo aumentato a 25 lire), costringendo i lettori di allora ad affaticare notevolmente la vista per leggere testi scritti davvero in caratteri minuscoli. In questo formato fa la sua prima apparizione Batman, nel N°33, dove viene chiamato Pipistrello, seguito dal fido Robin (almeno quello non l\"avevano cambiato). In compenso i costumi di tutti e due sono rossi! Dopo vari cambiamenti di colore (ce li troviamo anche in completo rosa...), alla fine al povero Batman rimarrà il costume rosso con mantello blu fino a che non prenderàÂ possesso della propria collana, mentre il costume di Robin avrà i colori originali dopo una decina di apparizioni. Anche in questo caso (come per l\"analoga decisione presa alla fine degli anni 40 dalle Edizioni Mondiali) non si capisce il motivo di questo colore, che di certo non era molto adatto per incutere terrore nei criminali.... E\" però altamente probabile che sia stato per spirito di emulazione di uno dei più importanti personaggi del fumetto dell\"epoca, ovvero Phantom, che indossava appunto una sgargiante calzamaglia rossa (almeno qui in Italia....) Comunque in parecchie copertine si dimenticavano di questo fatto, lasciando il grigio originale, come potrete vedere tra le immagini della Cronologia.
Le amenità si sprecavano con i nomi dei mezzi utilizzati dai due: prima la Batmobile viene chiamata con un elegante pipistrel-mobile (N°39), poi con un delirante Auton, con il Batplano chiamato Aeron (N°54), quindi i due oggetti vengono per diversi numeri battezzati con i ridicoli Pipismobile e Pipisplano (N°77,79,82), roba veramente da piangere. Sarà solo con il N°105 che Batman riacquista il suo nome originale e con il N°106 anche la Batmobile ha finalmente il nome giusto. Intanto dal N°65 la collana riprende il suo formato originario che manterrà fino alla fine, mentre il prezzo sale a 30 lire dal N°71. Inizialmente tutte le storie sono tratte dalle due testate di Superman (Action Comics e Superman), poi arriva (nel già citato N°33) World\"s Finest Comics, e poco dopo iniziano a comparire le storie di Superboy (dal N° 47) tratte dalle sue due collane Superboy e Adventure Comics. In questo caso il nome non viene modificato, ovvero Superboy viene chiamato semplicemente Nembo Kid ragazzo, e del resto Kid significa appunto ragazzo. Subito dopo appaiono addirittura le storie \"a-solo\" di Jimmy Olsen (dal N°50) tratte dalla testata a lui dedicata Superman\"s pal Jimmy Olsen. Queste ultime diventano sempre più invadenti, tanto da essere addirittura fastidiose (nel N°87 ad esempio ci sono solo di queste storie) anche perchè la qualità è veramente scarsa, e nonostante gli episodi disegnati da un già bravissimo Curt Swan, le storie sono spesso davvero stupide. Dal N°106 iniziano ad apparire avventure tratte dalle due collane di Batman, mentre fino a quel momento l\"uomo pipistrello era apparso solo assieme a Superman in albi tratti da World\"s Finest Comics. Questo era sicuramente dovuto al fatto che la collana era passata alla periodicità settimanale a partire dal N°103, e quindi aveva bisogno di attingere ad altre fonti di materiale da stampare, visto che si era arrivati alle 144 pagine al mese! Il disegnatore più significativo di quel periodo di Batman era Dick Sprang, che realizzava disegni molto dinamici e Other informationsati, ma anche molto caricaturali. A dargli man forte, assieme comunque a tanti altri, il più classico Sheldon Moldoff. Poco più avanti (N°143) arriverà anche la collana di Luisa Lane (Superman\"s Girlfrend Lois Lane), che si contraddistingue per gli ottimi disegni di Kurt Schaffenberger

Il lontano pianeta Krypton sta per essere distrutto da una terribile esplosione dello stesso gas che è il segreto della sua energia. Jor-El, uno dei membri del Consiglio Supremo del condannato pianeta, con l\'intento di salvare la propria razza perfettissima e di portare sulla Terra un poco di quella saggezza di cui ha bisogno, per mezzo di un razzo vi spedisce il figlioletto in fasce, Kal-El. Ritrovato e accolto dai coniugi Kent, due anziani contadini, l\'alieno viene allevato da loro come un figlio e chiamato Clark, nascondendo per ora le sue doti sovrumane. Dopo la morte di Pa Kent, distaccatosi con dolore dalla madre adottiva, Clark raggiunge New York e viene assunto come giornalista presso il Daily Planet. Al giornale fa amicizia con la collega Lois Lane che, tuttavia, lo tratta maternamente a causa della sua apparente timidezza. Nel frattempo la ragazza si sente attratta dal misterioso Superman, un personaggio che \"vola\" là ove sta accadendo qualcosa di pericoloso. L\'unico che ha delle idee ben chiare sull\'origine di Superman e sulla natura della sua forza è il criminale megalomane Lex Luthor il quale, con l\'aiuto della terribile Tasmaker e del segugio Otis, si appresta a dirottare due missili nucleari onde provocare disastri sulla Terra. Supeman reagisce per salvare Lois Lane, la donna che ama e un giovane collega; ma facendolo contravviene agli ordini di Jor-El. Per compiere la sua missione benefica interferisce sul tempo terrestre che fa tornare indietro di qualche ora.

Il terzo capitolo della saga dedicata a Superman è una sorta di ritratto antieroico del supereroe. Il regista Richard Lester la butta sulla parodia con un buon risultato di resa e di pubblico. Anche se la critica lo accusa si aver strizzato troppo l occhio alla sceneggiatura di War Games. Il film sembra abbandonare l’indagine psicologica e le tensioni narrative tipiche dei primi due episodi, per offrire nuovi intrecci e risvolti ironici.

L uomo di Krypton deve combattere contro un trio di arcicriminali dotati dei suoi stessi poteri. Costato 10 milioni di dollari di meno e affidato alla regia intelligente di R. Lester, il n. 2 della serie accentua la componente umoristica e ironica, già presente nel primo, e dà maggior spazio al sentimento.
