IMBD Review

This is a fine example of roughie/hardcore but is too ambitious and ultimately not really able to deliver. Supposedly about voodoo and sexual submission this ends up one big orgy. There are whippings and bondage but neither the cast nor the director seem particularly interested in the theme. So there is too much scrawny scrotum, too much soft d*** and far too much wooden acting. There are, however, some excellent moments and that orgy is something else. Even here, though, it must be said that everybody is far more interested in having a good time than in making a film. So, often the camera angles are obscured or we just miss a slice of the action, but the authenticity and enthusiasm of the participants does compensate. C J Laing and Annie Sprinkle are sadly underused but the rest get plenty of opportunity to show what they are made of particularly a few astonishing moments as Vanessa del Rio shows off her sword swallowing technique.

Il titolo della pellicola è una diretta traduzione del termine Islam. Il film parla delle donne maltrattate in famiglie mussulmane: esso riporta la storia di una donna mussulmana picchiata e violentata da un proprio parente. Nel film i corpi vengono usati come una tela su cui riportare versetti del Corano.

Theo van Gogh (L\'Aia, 23 luglio 1957 – Amsterdam, 2 novembre 2004) è stato un regista, attore, produttore televisivo e pubblicista olandese, discendente del fratello del celebre pittore Vincent van Gogh, assassinato da Mohammed Bouyeri, esponente del Gruppo Hofstad.

Il suo assassino, in possesso di doppia cittadinanza marocchina e olandese, gli sparò otto colpi di pistola e successivamente gli tagliò la gola in pieno centro di Amsterdam per eseguire una fatwa legata alla pubblicazione del suo cortometraggio Submission (\"Sottomissione\", traduzione letterale del termine arabo \"Islam\").

Ayaan Hirsi Ali,è una olandese di origini somale che si batte per l\'emancipazione femminile nell\'Islam, scrisse la sceneggiatura del cortometraggio Submission, nel quale, tra l\'altro, si vedono dei versi di una sura del Corano scritti sulla schiena della protagonista.

Come conseguenza, una fatwa di morte fu pronunciata nei confronti di van Gogh e di Hirsi Ali[senza fonte], e la donna vive tuttora sotto stretta protezione. Nella pancia di van Gogh, dopo l\'assassinio vennero piantati due coltelli, uno dei quali tratteneva un documento di cinque pagine con minacce ai governi occidentali, agli ebrei e a Hirsi Ali.

Da allora, il film è stato ritirato dalla proiezione dal suo produttore, Gijs van Vesterlaken, anche lui minacciato ripetutamente di morte, ma è comunque reperibile sulla rete.

Gijs van Vesterlaken è il produttore di Submission, il film del regista olandese Theo Van Gogh giustiziato l\'Years scorso da un fondamentalista islamico proprio a causa della sua pellicola. Ha deciso di ritirare l\'opera a tempo indeterminato per la serie incredibile di minacce di morte che gli sono giunte e che sono ritenute credibili dai servizi di sicurezza. Il cortometraggio, di 11 minuti, solo in piccola parte trasmesso alla tv olandese prima del brutale assassinio del suo autore, è diventato quindi \"pericoloso\" per chiunque vi si avvicini.

Il tema scottante affrontato da Van Gogh, quello della mancanza di libertà, della «sottomissione» della donna nella famiglia islamica, ha provocato l’istinto omicida del fondamentalista di origine marocchina che gli ha dato la morte in modo rituale: buttato giù dalla bicicletta, sparato in faccia, la gola squartata ritualmente, e una lettera infilzata nella pancia che annunciava la fatwa contro la sua sceneggiatrice, la somala infibulata e oggi parlamentare Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Da allora nessuno ha più visto l’opera, né sui canali TV che l’avevano annunciata, né tanto meno al Festival di Rotterdam, da sempre attento ai problemi della libertà. Per non parlare del “correttissimo” Festival di Cannes. Nei giorni scorsi era arrivata la notizia di una eventuale proiezione al Festival di Locarno nel prossimo agosto, ma il direttore della rassegna Irene Bignardi ha spiegato al Corriere della Sera che mai è stata fatta richiesta della pellicola proprio per la dichiarata e concreta impossibilità di proiezione per motivi di ordine pubblico.

Il ritiro della pellicola, ma forse ancor più l’indifferenza mostrata proprio da quel mondo del cinema e della cultura sempre attento alla libertà d’espressione, hYears scatenato il dibattito. In rete il film si trova, è scaricabile, e molti blog sono intervenuti per denunciare la vicenda come un caso di autocensura inaccettabile, invitando a non cedere al ricatto islamista e a diffondere via web il film: «Come possiamo dargliela vinta. Allora ritiriamo tutte le opere di Salman Rushdie, ritiriamo tutte le Bibbie, ritiriamo Emma Bonino che difende le donne musulmane oppresse», scrive l’indignatissimo Rabbì. Emma Bonino, intervistata a Radio Radicale, non si appassiona alla polemica che ha coinvolto alcuni festival cinematografici internazionali. C’è la distribuzione in cassetta, c’è la tv. D’altra parte il problema sicurezza c’è e va posto, e poi ci sono mille e diversi tipi di strumenti per parlare della condizione delle donne nel mondo arabo, non è detto che si debba fare una proiezione in piazza o arrivare alla «provocazione».

Carlo Panella, giornalista esperto di Islam sentito da Radio Radicale, pur giudicando «inammissibile» che la decisione di non proiettare il film sia dovuta alle minacce dei «fascisti islamici», definisce però il documentario «impresentabile, un errore, offensivo per gli islamici moderati, da scontro di civiltà di basso livello». Questo «bisogna avere il coraggio di dirlo pubblicamente», dice il giornalista, senza che ciò significhi neanche lontanamente giustificare l’uccisione del regista e le minacce alla sceneggiatrice somala del film. La scena incriminata ritrae i versetti del Corano proiettati sulla schiena nuda di una donna percossa. Ma «accusare Maometto e il Corano di essere all’origine della condizione di schiavitù della donna» nel mondo musulmano è un «errore storico da censurare con la matita blu». La prescrizione coranica sulle donne, che risale al 620, è «rivoluzionaria», riconoscendo condizioni che in occidente si affermano nel XVII secolo. «Ho il film… lo porterò in giro, insieme con i libri di Pim Fortuyn, per farli vedere», ha dichiarato invece Edouard Ballaman, deputato della Lega Nord, che proietterà il film in sala stampa alla Camera. Anche Giuseppe Giulietti (Ds), per Articolo 21, si è espresso per la proiezione del film.

Van Gogh è nato a L\'Aia nel 1957; il suo bisnonno era il mercante d\'arte Theo van Gogh, fratello di Vincent van Gogh. Suo fratello, Johan van Gogh, era membro del servizio segreto neerlandese (AIVD, poi BVD). Frequentò la facoltà di legge, dalla quale uscì per lavorare nel mondo del cinema per soddisfare la sua grande passione, creare e dirigere film. Il suo debutto fu il film Luger, nel 1981. Il primo importante riconoscimento fu il Gouden Kalf, equivalente del premio italiano David di Donatello, nel 1996 per il film Blind Date (Appuntamento al buio), bissato nel 1997 con In het belang van de staat (Nell\'interesse dello Stato), per il quale ricevette anche un \"Certificate of Merit\" al San Francisco International Film Festival. Apparve anche come attore nella produzione \"De noordlingen\" (I Nordici - 1992), dopo di che si dedicò alla scrittura, collaborando ad esplosivi e provocatori pezzi su quotidiani e riviste.

Theo van Gogh, ritenuto persona tollerante nei rapporti individuali, nei suoi articoli attaccava duramente politici, giornalisti e tutti coloro che facessero \"parte del sistema\".

In conseguenza di ciò, fu licenziato più volte dai vari giornali per i quali lavorava, ed infine costringendolo a scrivere esclusivamente nel suo sito, chiamato De Gezonde Roker (\"Il fumatore in salute\").

Amico del politico neerlandese Pim Fortuyn, anche lui assassinato nel 2002, era politicamente schierato con il Republikeins Genootschap, associazione di idee repubblicane che propugna l\'abolizione della monarchia nei Paesi Bassi.

Le immagini del breve documentario proposto parlano da sole, è difficile esprimere Shortly... un commento che non abbia in qualche modo un \"colore\" politico e non ne è questa la sede.
Indipendentemente dalle considerazioni che ognuno di noi può fare, io propongo Submission per chi non ha avuto modo di vederlo.

Il caso di Submission fa tornare alla memoria almeno un paio di episodi di “autocensura”, non per minacce, ma per timore di offendere il sentimento religioso. “Je vous salue Marie”, di Jean Luc Godard, che venne pubblicamente dichiarato da Papa Giovanni Paolo II un’offesa alla Madonna, e suscitò un tale baccano che l’autore pensò di ritirarlo; e più recentemente: “Pianese Nunzio quattordici anni a maggio” di Antonio Capuano, la storia d’amore fra un prete anticamorra, e il ragazzino del titolo, raccontata però come un rapporto positivo. Tonini disse che non bisognava alzare polveroni, ma era più prudente tacerne. E così avvenne: dopo essere stato presentato con successo al festival di Venezia, uscì a Roma in un paio di cinema, e sparì rapidamente dalla programmazione. E’ stata recuperato un paio di volte in tarda serata su Rete 4.
