Giappone, fine periodo Tokugawa (1603-1867), nella taverna dove lavora la giovane cameriera Fu inizia un tafferuglio,
in cui il giovane ed irruente spadaccino Mugen non vede ovviamente l\'ora di infilarsi.
Poco dopo, per un caso del destino, il ronin Jin si ritroverà suo malgrado risucchiato nella stessa rissa, perché scambiato da Mugen come lo scagnozzo mandato a chiamare dal suo avversario, niente meno (non c\'era forse da aspettarselo?) che il figlio del dispotico signorotto locale.
Dopo l\'inevitabile devastazione del locale i due verranno catturati e, in seguito al loro diniego di piegarsi, condannati a morte per il giorno seguente.
Curiosamente sarà proprio Fu, la ragazza ora disoccupata, ad aiutarli nella loro fuga, ma ad una condizione, accompagnarla alla ricerca del \"Samurai che profuma di girasoli\"; sarà però solo grazie a una scommessa che i due acconsentiranno alla richiesta.
Questo l\'incipit banale, per una serie che banale non è. Più che altro si tratta di un pretesto per la messa in scena di una serie molto episodica, fatta di puntate slegate fra di loro, dove la trama di fondo è assolutamente in secondo piano. Certo, vi sono alcuni episodi davvero deliziosi e un cast ricco di carismatici personaggi secondari,
ma se in un anime cercate intreccio narrativo, crescita psicologica dei personaggi, logica e verosimiglianza, allora Samurai Champloo non fa per voi.
Siete invece giunti a destinazione se stavate cercando una serie d\'azione un po\' \"fool\" dalle peculiari commistioni grafico-musicali, capace di uno stravagante mix tra il \"japan fashion\" moderno e quello medievale, condito da una colonna sonora a metà fra l\'hip-hop e un DJ set giapponese.

Tre personaggi dal carattere contrapposto

- Mugen è un guerriero vagabondo ed un opportunista nato, dalla capigliaruta ribelle e dall\'aspetto trasandato, dotato di grande abilità con la spada che muove con imprevedibilità accompagnado i suoi fendenti con movenze in stile capoeira. E\' sconsigliabile irritarlo.
- Jin è un classico ronin, la sua abilità con la katana è quindi unita ad un comportamento ed a un\'espressività difficilmente interpretabili. Di indole generosa, odia la prepotenza ed è praticamente l\'opposto del ribelle Mugen.
- Fuu è l\'unica femmina del gruppo. Giovane e graziosa, non vede l\'ora di levare le tende da una quotidianità divenuta insopportabile. Sarà fonte di notevoli grattacapi per i due abili guerrieri vista l\'ingenuità ed istintività del suo carattere.
