Rune: Ragnar is a young Viking warrior just coming of age. As his father prepares him for the final rites of manhood, the atmosphere of his village is tense as stories of recent raids on neighboring villages. These raids were particularly brutal, as the women-folk and children were slaughtered and the villages burned to the ground. Conrack, a cruel chieftain and follower of Loki, is said to be the cause of the raids, and his name is now spoken now only in whispers for fear that he will appear, like some evil spirit, as if from thin air. Ragnar's village is dedicated to the worship of Odin, all-father of the gods, and ruler of Asgard, the Viking heaven. Ragnar begins his rite of manhood, but as a young warrior, he has much to prove. He fulfils his ritual, but he will not be a true warrior until he can be blooded in battle. Before the dust of the rite has settled, however, word comes of another raid at a village close by. The warriors of Ragnar's village are called upon to put an end to Conrack and his evil. Ragnar's father joins the raiding party, as does Ragnar, as the newest warrior of his village. It is Ragnar's wish to prove his manhood in valorous battle and gain entry into Valhalla. The fate of the Norns is never what men expect, however, and the men of Ragnar's village sail off not into valor, but into a raging storm. Halls of Valhalla: The official multiplayer expansion pack for the highly acclaimed PC game Rune. Rune: Halls of Valhalla offers Rune fans the chance to go online and test their mettle against players from around the world. It can be played as both a stand-alone multiplayer game, as well as an expansion to the original. Two new modes (Headball and Arena) and additional maps, along with a multitude of new, animated creatures including three new fearsome female characters will keep the melee going. The Headball mode is a team based sports game in which players rend the limbs or heads of their enemies and score points by throwing them through a goal. It's kill or be killed in the Arena mode as gamers compete in one-on-one duels against varying opponents. Similar to the original game, Rune: Halls of Valhalla will utilize an enhanced version of Epic Games' Unreal Tournament game engine and will feature amazingly life-like animations, a detailed weapon system and a unique combat system.

Was ist Rune Halls of Valhalla?
Rune: Halls of Valhalla ist ein Multiplayer Addon fr das Spiel Rune, das schon mit seinem
Multiplayer Modus erfolgreich war. Rune HoV luft komplett eigenstndig und braucht keine
Vollversion von Rune. Das Spiel ist auch nur auf Multiplay zugeschnitten, es gibt also keinen Singleplayer Modus.

Was gibt?s Neues?
Es wurden zwei komplett neue Multiplayer-Modi integriert, diese nennen sich HeadBall und Arena,
au▀erdem sind natrlich noch die Alten Modi wie z.B. Deathmatch und Team-Deathmatch vorhanden.
Ebenfalls sehr positiv ist die Auswahl der Krieger, es gibt jetzt rund 20 Kmpfer mehr. Nun mal
nher zu den einzelnen Modi: Beim Modus Areana handelt sich um einen Kampf auf Leben und Tod. Wie
im Wilden Westen kommt es dabei zu Duellen mit Mann gegen Mann Fights. Beim Modus Headball, meinem
persnlichen Favoriten, handelt es sich um American Football auf Wikinger Art. Dabei muss man so
viele Kpfe wie mglich der Gegnermannschaft ber bestimmte Tore der Arena schie▀en (dabei gibt
es sogar fr schwererreichbare Tore mehr Punkte). Ich glaube bei Deathmatch und TeamDeathmatch ist
klar, was gemeint ist. Was uns ebenfalls mit dem Addon spendiert wird, ist ein neuer Netz-Code,
der das Spiel noch stabiler im Netzwerk, bzw. Internet laufen lsst. Aber natrlich haben die
Entwickler es auch nicht verpasst neue Kampf-Optionen einzubauen, so wurden z.B. einige neue
Funktionen eingebaut, um den Kopf seines Gegners sein Eigen zu nennen.
Was eigentlich nicht so erwhnenswertes Neues ist, ist die Fhigkeit geworfene Waffen durch
Magische Sprche oder einfach mit einem gezielten Schwertwurf in der Luft abzulenken.
Es gibt natrlich auch neue Maps (wie sich das auch gehrt), die eigentlich immer schn anzuschauen
sind.

Was ist mit der Steuerung ?
Die Steuerung ist am Anfang eigentlich schn leicht zu berblicken, man sieht den Held aus der
dritten Person (von au▀en) und steuert ihn mit der Maus und der Tastatur. Dabei ist die Steuerung
fast wie in Shootern. Was allerdings gerade fr Anfnger recht schwer ist, sind die verschiedenen
Combos, also z.B. Springen, Kreisschwertschlag und dann mit dem Schild blocken.

Wie ist der Sound ?
Der Sound ist richtig gut gelungen, wenn Schwerter statt den Gegner eine Wand touchieren, klingt
es einfach richtig realistisch. Wenn der Kopf des Gegners auf den Boden fllt, hrt es sich immer
wieder anderes an, weil es immer davon abhngig ist, wo ich gerade stehe. Nach den Soundeffekten
will ich noch was zur Musikuntermalung sagen: Die ist bis auf wenige Ausnahmen hammergeil,
lediglich manchmal wirkt sie etwas unpassend.

Hlt die Grafik was sie verspricht?
Es wird die Grafikengine von Unreal Tournament verwendet, die manchmal irgendwie nicht ganz
berzeugt. Zwar werden die Bloodgore Effekte richtig gut dargestellt, also Beine oder Kpfe
abschlagen, aber die Au▀enwelt wirkt irgendwie so trist und unbelebt. Eigentlich schade. Es
beinhaltet eigentlich fast keine Spielspa▀-Einbu▀ung . Die Rume und Hallen sehen dafr nmlich
um einiges besser aus und berzeugen in ihrem Wikingercharme.
Die Engine untersttzt sogar eine Vielzahl beliebter Grafikmodi : OpenGL, Direct 3D, Glide, MeTal
und auch den Software- Renderer.

Fazit
Eigentlich ist es ein gut gelungenes Addon, was keinerlei gr▀ere Schwchen aufweist. Lediglich
bei dem Langzeitspielfaktor kann Rune: Halls of Valhalla nicht ganz mit Shootern wie z.B.
Half-Life (Counter-Strike) mithalten. Allerdings kann man diese beiden Genre auch nicht so direkt
vergleichen. Deshalb mal meine persnliche Meinung : Ein gutes Spiel mit berzeugendem
Wikingercharme und auf alle Flle einer Menge Innovation (z.B. dem Headball Modus).
