- Ummagumma, pubblicato nel 1969, è il quarto album dei Pink Floyd. Si tratta del disco più estremo del gruppo, e anche quello in cui, per la prima volta, si respira aria di progressive rock. Il titolo dell\'album si riferisce a un\'espressione in slang per indicare l’atto sessuale; dal Libro Pink Floyd: Lo scrigno dei segreti di Nicholas Shaffner si apprende che Ummagumma era anche il verso tipico di strane creature che, secondo la leggenda, infestavano una palude vicino a Cambridge.
- La struttura dell\'album è molto particolare. Si tratta infatti di un doppio album di cui un disco venne registrato dal vivo prima al Mothers Club di Birmingham il 27 aprile 1969, poi al Manchester College of Commerce il 2 maggio; alcune parti vocali sono state aggiunte in studio.
- L\'altro disco contiene cinque tracce composte ognuna da un singolo componente del gruppo. Di fatto, il componimento unico di Richard Wright è in realtà diviso in quattro tracce distinte, che altro non sono che le rispettive parti in cui esso è stato scisso; allo stesso modo il componimento di David Gilmour e quello di Nick Mason sono stati divisi entrambi in tre parti (e le rispettive tracce) distinte. Le due tracce di Roger Waters, invece, non sono divise in parti, ma costituiscono due tracce singole e dunque distinte, intitolate rispettivamente Grantchester Meadows e Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict.
- L\'album venne pubblicato nel Regno Unito il 25 ottobre 1969 e negli Stati Uniti il 10 novembre. Raggiunse il 5° posto in Inghilterra ed il 74° in America, facendo entrare i Pink Floyd nella top 100 degli Stati Uniti per la prima volta. Venne certificato disco d\'oro nel febbraio del 1974 e di platino nel marzo del 1994.
- Nel 1994 venne rimasterizzato in digitale. Nessuna delle due versioni CD conteneva, nel libretto, la fotografia della prima moglie di Roger Waters, che era invece contenuta nella versione in vinile.
- Come annunciato dal sito www.pink-floyd.it, nell\'autunno 2009, in occasione del quarantennale dall\'uscita, sarà pubblicata una nuova versione del disco con inediti.
- La Cover oflo Studio album, dello studio Hypgnosis, varia dalla versione inglese (e canadese) a quella statunitense. La foto nel retro di copertina è una composizione grafica con tutto il materiale usato nelle rappresentazioni live (strumenti, camioncini, luci, i due tecnici).

- L\'idea per la foto sul retro di copertina, scattata sulla pista di un aeroporto, è di Nick Mason.
- David Gilmour, che non aveva mai scritto canzoni a parte la breve spagnoleggiante A spanish theme su More, chiese a Roger Waters di scrivere le parole per The Narrow way, ma Waters glielo negò.
- I Pink Floyd, insoddisfatti del risultato finale (Roger Waters disse semplicemente: \"Ummagumma? What a disaster!\"), non riuscivano a spiegarsi tale successo.
- Il parco citato in Grantchester Meadows esiste veramente e si trova vicino all\'Università frequentata da Roger Waters.
- Inizialmente nella parte live erano comprese Interstellar Overdrive ed Embryo (mai incisa ufficialmente dal gruppo, anche se presente per anni nei loro concerti, come attestano numerosi bootleg), ma poi per motivi di spazio furono tolte.
- L\'intenzione originaria era quella di suonare i brani compresi nella parte live per un\'ultima volta, ma il successo dell\'album costrinse i Pink Floyd a risuonarli negli anni seguenti.
- A Saucerful of Secrets è composta da due parti incise in sere diverse e unite in fase di mixaggio
- Il rapper Caparezza ha citato il disco nella canzone Io diventerò qualcuno dell\'album Le dimensioni del mio caos insieme a Zenyatta Mondatta dei Police.

- I Pink Floyd sono una rock band britannica formatasi nella seconda metà degli anni sessanta che, nel corso di una lunga e travagliata carriera, è riuscita a riscrivere le tendenze musicali della propria epoca e a diventare uno dei gruppi più importanti della storia del rock.
- Sebbene agli inizi siano stati influenzati prevalentemente dal rock psichedelico e dallo space rock, il genere al quale appartengono è in prevalenza il rock progressivo.
