Jones enlisted several songwriting collaborators, including Ryan Adams and Okkervil River???s Will Sheff, as well as her frequent partner Jesse Harris. Jones also put together a new group of musicians to perform on the album, including drummers Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M.) and James Gadson (Bill Withers), keyboardist James Poyser (Erykah Badu, Al Green), and guitarists Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello) and Smokey Hormel (Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer). Tja, das war ein Einstand, der sich gewaschen hatte: �ber 16 Millionen Mal ging das Deb�talbum von Norah Jones Come Away With Me �ber die Ladentheken, sie sammelte rund 80 Platin-Auszeichnungen ein und -- sozusagen als Kr�nung der jungen Musik-K�nigin -- �berh�ufte die amerikanische Schallplattenindustrie die K�nstlerin und ihr Erstlingswerk mit insgesamt acht (!) Grammys. Die Welt erlebte die Geburt eines Weltstars -- einer Musikerin, die mit auffallend leisen, akustischen, stilistisch kaum einzuordnenden Kl�ngen h�chst erfolgreich gegen den Trend-Strom anschwamm. Was kann da noch kommen? Antwort: Feels Like Home, ihr zweites Album.

Feels Like Home ist mehr als nur eine Fortsetzung ihrer mit Come Away With Me begonnen k�nstlerischen Reise; mehr, als eine kreative Best�tigung ihres gro�en Talents; mehr als eine CD ohne einen einzigen Durchh�nger. Feels Like Home ist auch das Reifezeugnis einer scheinbar unbeirrbar gefestigten Musikerin. Denn genau wie ihr Erstlingswerk wird auch dieses zweite, wieder von Arif Mardin produzierte Album zuvorderst von einer faszinierend l�ssigen, relaxten Atmosph�re gepr�gt. So hat man beim Durchh�ren der CD sogar den Eindruck, dass die New Yorkerin im Vergleich zum Deb�t noch einen Gang zur�ck schaltet: Wie kaum eine andere l�sst sie die Songs atmen und sich entwickeln, l�sst sie Pausen und ganz, ganz ruhige Momente zu, und schafft dadurch Spannungsb�gen, die den H�rer mit sanfter Gewalt zu fesseln verm�gen. Keine Frage: eine Meisterleistung!

Stilistisch ist die reh�ugige Sch�nheit mit den dunklen Barbie-Locken genauso wenig einzuordnen wie bei ihrem Deb�t: Steht bei den Titeln das Klavier oder E-Piano (ein knurrendes Fender Rhodes!) im Vordergrund, �berwiegen jazzige Elemente. Spielt in Songs wie "Humble Me" oder "The Long Way Home" die Akustik-Gitarre die erste Geige, sind es auch mal reinrassige Folk-Songs. Ein Schuss Country muss nat�rlich auch wieder sein: "Creepin' In" hei�t der Bluegrass-Feger (mit Abstand der schnellste Song der CD), bei dem sich Norah Jones mit h�rbarem Spa� das Mikro mit Country-Queen Dolly Parton teilt.

Trotz der vielen stilistischen Ausritte l�sst sich ein gemeinsamen Nenner ausmachen: der Blues. Aus zwei Gr�nden: Zum einen wegen der latent melancholischen Note in den Kompositionen, zum anderen wegen Norah Jones' bluesig-angerauhter Stimme. So erinnert sie in Timbre, Feeling und Ausdruck an eine sanftere Ausgabe einer Janis Joplin. Beste Beispiele hierf�r sind "In The Morning" und "Be Here To Love Me". H�tte die wilde Janis damals nicht flaschenweise Jack Daniels konsumiert und stattdessen nur ab und zu an einem Bud genippt, h�tte sie -- wer wei� -- wohl so �hnlich geklungen. Gewiss aber l�nger gelebt.

Singer and pianist Norah Jones begins her debut with a confessional tale called "Don't Know Why," a little shrug of a song about the call she couldn't make to a lover and the ensuing missed hookup. She sings as though this one ordinary incident has unraveled her world -- she sounds weary and tense, puzzled by a sudden lack of bravery, haunted by what could have been, overcome with regret. Jones takes her sweet time illuminating these emotional ripples, and the restraint makes that track -- and all of Come Away With Me -- a quietly captivating triumph of torch song. Her voice might be set to permanent smolder, but the Dallas-born singer, whose father is Ravi Shankar, doesn't act like your typical cabaret diva: She understands the desolate hurt of Hank Williams ("Cold Cold Heart" is one of the album's most effective covers) and the gloomy melancholy of Billie Holiday, knows her way around the late-night moans of Memphis soul and the veiled desire of tango ("I've Got to See You Again" echoes the dance's slithering sensuality). Yet for all this gathering of handed-down wisdom, and all the distinct shades of blue that color her interpretations, Jones rarely sounds like a slick purveyor of saloon heartbreak. She sings in an earthy growl that can send chills, or a conspiratorial whisper that suggests she's sharing sworn secrets, or a weary sigh that exudes the kind of quiet, easygoing intimacy that doesn't come around in songs too much anymore.
