In ihrer Sendung gehen sie skurrilen Geschichten und andere Mythen und Legenden
nach und versuchen diesen durch Kombination von Wissenschaft und Technologie,
auf den Grund zu gehen.

Die Sendung

Die Dynamik des Unglaublichen
Die Idee ist pr�destiniert f�r das Fernsehen. So wurde die Sendung bei den
vielen Fans von Jamie Hyneman und Adam Savage seit 2003 die MythBusters
schnell zur Sucht.

Jamie und Adam sind wahre Experten, was Spezialeffekte und den Bau von Maschinen
und komplizierten Robotern anbelangt. In ihrer Sendung kombinieren die Zwei
Elemente aus Wissenschaft und Technologie, um skurrile Geschichten und andere
Mythen und Legenden auf ihren Wahrheitsgehalt zu pr�fen.

Die ideale Voraussetzung um z.B. ein gefrorenes H�hnchen gegen eine Metallplatte
zu schleudern, um zu sehen, ob ein Vogel im Flug die Frontscheibe eines
Flugzeugs durchbrechen kann. Oder auch wenn es um den Nachbau einer
Sonnenstrahlwaffe geht, die angeblich der Grieche Archimedes entwickelt hat,
um mit Spiegeln und Sonnenlicht ein Feuer zu entfachen, um die r�mischen Flotte
zu vernichten.

Auch wenn es oft mehrerer Versuche bedarf, es gibt es kaum ein Mythos, den Jamie
und Adam nicht aufdecken. Das Geschehen vor der Kamera sorgt f�r jede Menge
Spannung und verleiht der Sendung einen ganz besonderen Kick, ohne den sie nicht
f�r so viele Fans zum Kult geworden w�re.

Es l�uft nicht immer alles nach Plan, aber manchmal kommt gerade dann alles
viel besser r�ber, erkl�rte Peter Reese, Executive Producer und ideologischer
Kopf der Sendung dem San Francisco Chronicle zum Serienstart. In einer der
Sendungen wollten Jamie und Adam zum Beispiel herausfinden, ob man den Gestank
eines verwesten Tieres tats�chlich nur schwer aus einem Auto herausbekommt.

Die beiden mussten den Chevy mit dem Tierkadaver wochenlang meiden, weil der
Gestank nicht auszuhalten war, aber Adam freute sich wie ein kleines Kind. Kaum
weniger lustig war die Szene, als sich das Duo von einem Stinktier anspritzen
lie�, um zu sehen, ob man den Geruch mit Tomatensauce wegbekommt.

Eins ist sicher: Jamie und Adam h�tten nie gedacht, vor allem nicht 2002, dass
die f�nf Wochen, in denen sie die drei Episoden f�r die Serie drehten,
letztendlich bei Discovery Channel enden w�rden und eine Sendung wie MythBusters
so viele Leute in ihren Bann ziehen w�rde.

Kann man aus einer Mikrowelle eine Bombe machen, indem man Metallgegenst�nde
hineinlegt? Kann ein Drogentest positiv ausfallen, wenn man vorher Mohnbrot
isst? Halten Silikonimplantate extreme Tiefen und H�hen aus?

Es gibt viele Fragen und jede Menge M�glichkeiten, um herauszufinden, ob ein
weit verbreiteter Glaube blo�er Irrglaube ist oder tats�chlich stimmt. Wenn es
bei einem Experiment gef�hrlich wird, wird Buster auf den Plan gerufen. Der
mit Sensoren ausgestattete Crash-Test-Dummy sammelt in Gefahrensituationen
wichtige Informationen, anhand derer das Technikteam beurteilen kann, welche
Sch�den ein Mensch in der betreffenden Situation davongetragen h�tte.

Zum Beispiel: Was passiert, wenn jemand aus einem Flugzeug springt und das
Rettungsboot als Fallschirm verwendet? Oder: Wenn ein Aufzug pl�tzlich nach
unten rast, hilft es, kurz vor dem Aufprall hochzuspringen?
