Ma come molti registi del passato hanno dimostrato, è possibile realizzare un film che sia simultaneamente un oggetto culturale e un prodotto industriale. Mission Impossible III è questo film. Prodotto dalla Cruise/Wagner, interpretato da Tom Cruise e diretto dall\'autore rivelazione J.J. Abrams, la terza missione dell’agente Ethan Hunt è compiuta: il \"buono e il cattivo\" coesistono per rendere desiderabile la visione. Ma il manicheismo del film non si limita alla sola produzione commerciale, per l\'agente Hunt, Abrams concepisce un cattivo mai così cattivo, che come un \"bravo\" si opporrà alla felice riuscita del suo matrimonio. Perché Ethan si è ritirato a vita privata per sposare Julia, che ignora la sua vera identità. Ma certi vizi sono duri a morire e alla vigilia della cerimonia di fidanzamento è chiamato dall\'Impossible Mission Force a soccorrere una collega scomparsa. Sarà l\'inizio della fine della tranquillità domestica, abbandonata per mete esotiche: Berlino, Roma, Shangai, che prestano la loro bellezza architettonica alle evoluzioni funamboliche della squadra di Hunt.<br /> Alle mille vite di cui pare godere il felino agente di Cruise si contrappone la fisicità burrosa e sofisticata di Philip Seymour Hoffman, uno spietato trafficante ossessionato da quello che Hitchcock chiamava un Mac Guffin, un pretesto che diventa motore della storia. L\'oggetto in questione è una \"zampa di coniglio\" che pare contenere una fantomatica arma chimica, di assoluta importanza per i personaggi e in grado di catalizzare l\'interesse dello spettatore. Archiviata la missione \"in giallo\" di De Palma e rimossa quella \"action\" di John Woo, la terza riduzione è telegenica, e suoni come una virtù trattandosi della trasposizione di un telefilm.<br /> L\'\"episodio\" di Abrams, come un serial televisivo, contiene e anticipa gli ingredienti della quarta puntata. Il regista, creatore del mondo perduto di Lost, combina l\'azione con l\'emozione: garantendo la prima col lavoro prezioso di Vic Armstrong, regista della seconda unità e coordinatore delle sequenze più spettacolari, e introducendo la seconda con una regia introspettiva interrotta da flashback. Come in Lost il cinema di Abrams torna indietro nel tempo e col tempo per ricostruire la vita dei suoi personaggi proiettati in una realtà aleatoria e temibile. Per sapere come sopravvivere basterà comprare un biglietto di sola andata per Xitang, un paese di pescatori a due ore da Shangai, dove scoprirete che niente è quello che sembra ma tutto alla fine è
