TRAMA:
R.M. Renfield approda in Transilvania per stipulare un contratto d'acquisto di un immobile a Londra con il conte Dracula, nonostante gli avvertimenti di alcuni paesani vicini al castello del Conte, decide di procedere verso il castello, ove il Conte oltre a comprare l'immobile rende schiavo il povero Renfield. Arrivato a Londra, Renfield (Che si rivela essere stupido e inaffidabile) viene chiuso in un manicomio, mentre Dracula viene a conoscenza di Johnatan, Mina e Lucy. Lucy dopo un mese inzia ad accusare un male sconosciuto, e Jack Seward chiama il suo amico Abraham Van Helsing esperto in malattie sconosciute...

RECENSIONE:
Poteva Mel Brooks dimenticarsi di Dracula dopo essersi occupato di Frankenstein? Sicuramente no anche perch? il vampiro pi? importante della letteratura ci sarebbe rimasto male. Ecco allora che Brooks rivista il mito alla sua maniera e si fa affiancare dal sorriso accattivante (con canini incorporati) di Leslie Nielsen che abbandona le pallottole spuntate per seguirlo in un tourbillon di citazioni che non si ispirano solo al romanzo ma, come ? ovvio, a tutto il cinema che ha visto Dracula come protagonista.
Alcune gag sono riuscite (una per tutte: i medici all'autopsia) altre fanno pi? fatica a far ridere. In ruoli cammeo Mel inserisce la moglie Anne Bancroft (la zingara che vende crocefissi) e l'amico Ezio Geggio che interpreta il postiglione della carrozza che porta al castello del Conte come meglio non si potrebbe. Una promessa accompagnava il lancio del film: 20 risate giganti, 30 splendide e almeno una cinquantina passabili. Contate le vostre.

Mel Brooks lampoon of various historical eras: The Stone Age" (featuring Sid Caesar) offers a nice parody of the "Dawn Of Man" sequence from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (1968) – while the brief but hilarious "The Old Testament" sees Brooks himself as Moses accidentally lose a third of God's original 15 Commandments! "The Roman Empire" – the longest segment – features Brooks veterans Dom De Luise and Madeleine Kahn, plus a wonderful conclusion involving John Hurt as Jesus Christ. "The Spanish Inquistion" is, again, brief but surely one of the film's highlights with its tastelessly inspired depiction of this infamous period as a Busby Berkeley-ish production number.
