Prodotto da Mike Shinoda e Rick Rubin, si tratta del primo disco del gruppo i cui membri appaiono tutti in copertina. È anche il primo ad avere il logo PMRC per testi volgari, esclusa la collaborazione con Jay-Z Collision Course.

Rispetto agli album precedenti, Minutes to Midnight presenta una certa diversità stilistica, e si discosta non poco dalle sonorità nu metal e rapcore. Il rapper ed MC Mike Shinoda, nel brano \"In Between\", per la prima volta si cimenta in un cantato melodico anziché rappato, e in \"The Little Things Give You Away\", \"In Pieces\" e \"Shadow Of The Day\" si sentono assoli di chitarra. I testi presentano anche forti connotazioni politiche. La canzone \"The Little Things Give You Away\" è un chiaro riferimento all\'uragano Katrina, che ha investito New Orleans nel 2005, e il significato del testo è stato confermato dagli stessi membri del gruppo.

Il primo singolo estratto è \"What I\'ve Done\", una delle poche canzoni dei Linkin senza parti rappate. Il video è stato girato nel 2007 in mezzo ad un deserto, dal dj Joseph Hahn. Altri singoli sono \"Bleed It Out\" ,\"Shadow of the Day\" ,\"Given Up\" e \"Leave Out All the Rest\".
