Kings of Metal è il sesto album della band statunitense Manowar.
Kings Of Metal, considerato da molti il vero capolavoro dei Manowar, è un resoconto dell\'epic duro proposto fino a Sign Of The Hammer e l\'approccio più power e moderno di Fighting The World. La copertina (la prima disegnata da Ken Kelly, che da questo album in poi sarà autore di tutte le copertine) rappresenta un guerriero che, vittorioso in cima ad una collina, ha sotto i suoi piedi delle bandiere (sulle quali svetta quella americana), nella mano destra uno spadone insanguinato e nella sinistra un cerchio dorato attirante dei fulmini.
È l\'ultimo album con il chitarrista Ross the Boss (uno dei fondatori dei Manowar) prima del suo abbandono per tornare alla band punk The Dictators.

Guerrieri e bandiere sembrano essere il trademark dei Manowar di fine anni \'80, così come celebra la band nel distruttivo finale \"Blood Of The Kings\", oltre che nell\'evidente copertina. \"Kings Of Metal\" è forse il disco più conosciuto degli \"omonimi\" autori e certamente il più bilanciato per un semplice approccio all\'heavy metal più classico e potente. Poco da dire sulla presa degli anthem \"Wheels Of Fire\" e \"Kings Of Metal\", veri e propri inni alla vita on the road di cui i Manowar si fanno alfieri. Qualche dubbio invece sorge osservando l\'ampio utilizzo di tastiere, strumento precedentemente scansato senza ritegno, con cui il chitarrista Ross The Boss costruisce intere canzoni, spesso congiunzioni di melodie di piano/organo con cori imponenti, presenti anche nella meticcia \"Kingdom Come\", incrocio tra la musica da strada e la ballata. Impeccabile sopra a tutto ciò è il solo Eric Adams, cantante e voce sempre più maturi, le cui URLa sono seconde soltanto a quelle dell\'ineguagliabile David DeFeis.
A seguire \"Hail And Kill\" e la già citata \"Blood Of The Kings\" sono due pezzi estremamente aggressivi, perfetta giunzione di cattiveria e potenza, irrefrenabile esplosione di virilità, insomma, principalmente ciò per cui questo disco ha un gran valore. Nota a margine per la favola guerresca \"The Warriors Prayer\", pregevole idea premiata in seguito anche sul versante live.

I Manowar sono una band heavy metal nata ad Auburn, New York, nel 1980 dall\'incontro tra il bassista del gruppo Joey DeMaio e il chitarrista Ross the Boss.
Il nome del gruppo deriva da un termine usato nell\'inglese arcaico, per l\'appunto man o\' war o man-o-war, che indicava una tipologia di antica nave da guerra a vela. Un\'altra possibile traduzione è quella che intende man-o\'-war una contrazione di man of war letteralmente uomo di guerra. I temi ricorrenti delle loro canzoni sono la mitologia, la guerra, la lealtà e l\'onore. I testi delle loro canzoni presentano quasi sempre elogi sulla musica heavy metal, che è visto non solo come un semplice genere musicale, ma come un vero e proprio stile di vita, di cui i Manowar si vantano di essere gli unici seguaci e portatori della parola.
I Manowar sono tra i gruppi antesignani e fondatori del sottogenere epic metal; pionieristico in tal senso è soprattutto l\'album Into Glory Ride, pubblicato nel 1983. Il gruppo detiene anche un vasto numero di record. In particolare rivendicano il titolo di \"band più rumorosa del mondo\" (precedentemente appartenuto ai Motörhead) grazie al Guinness dei primati che ha registrato questo fatto. La band è infatti giunta a quota 129.5 decibel attraverso uno speciale equipaggiamento costruito da John \"Dawk\" Stillwell. Inoltre sono stati la prima band metal a includere argomenti di guerra, spade e metallo sia nelle loro canzoni che nelle loro copertine, a costruirsi un set di amplificatori e chitarre da sé e su propria misura, ad aver registrato un album in Dolby 5.1 e detengono il record per il concerto metal più lungo della storia, con una prestazione di 5 ore ed 1 minuto in cui hanno eseguito oltre 50 brani.
