Una lieta notizia giunge tuttavia ai ragazzi, in quanto nei giorni successivi anche Goku sarebbe potuto arrivare sul pianeta per aiutarli. Nel frattempo ha atto la caccia alle sfere del drago, possedute dagli anziani del pianeta. Nonostante il gruppo di Crilin possieda un radar per rintracciare le sfere, sono incapaci di ottenerle in quanto Freezer ed i suoi uomini riescono ad impossessarsene uccidendo gli anziani che le possiedono. Una tuttavia viene recuperata grazie a Gohan, il quale riesce a salvare un giovane di Namecc di nome Dende, che porta il ragazzo di fronte al massimo capo anziano, da cui riceve una sfera.<br /> <br /> La situazione tuttavia peggiora, in quanto anche Vegeta è alla ricerca delle sfere e, per ottenerle, si scontrerà con i sottoposti di Freezer, Zarbon e Dodoria, riuscendo anche ad ucciderli. Sul pianeta allora, prima dell\'arrivo di Goku, giunge la speciale squadra Ginew, fatta arrivare da Freezer visti i problemi causatigli da Vegeta. Seguono gli scontri tra i 5 membri di questa squadra speciale e Vegeta, che riesce ad ottenere anche l\'aiuto ed il supporto di Gohan e Crilin. Tuttavia, la differenza di potenza è enorme ma, grazie all\'arrivo di Goku, anche il capo Ginew della squadra viene sconfitto.<br /> <br /> Si giunge infine allo scontro contro Freezer, che avverrà attraverso molteplici fasi. Durante la fine dello scontro avverrà la famosa trasformazione di Goku in Super Saiyan, il leggendario guerriero dai capelli d\'oro. Dopo di ciò, il progetto di Goku ed i suoi compagni giunge finalmente al termine. Realizzata per celebrare il 20° anniversario dalla prima trasmissione di \"Dragon Ball Z\" in Giappone, avvenuta nell\'aprile del 1989 fino al gennaio del 1996, in questa nuova serie vengono tolti i filler (cioè le parti non presenti nel manga, poiché Toriyama a quel tempo era ancora alle prese con il manga, quindi i registi e gli animatori dovettero riempire i buchi, con delle puntate come quella in cui Goku e Piccolo prendono la patente o le minisaghe di Garlic Jr. e del torneo dell\'aldilà) in modo da ridurre le puntate dell\'anime a 100 circa (l\'anime originale era di 291 episodi); sarà quindi una serie animata più fedele al manga e lo sviluppo della trama procederà più speditamente. Inoltre la qualità delle animazioni verrà migliorata e verranno aggiunte nuove scene, insieme col riadattamento dei dialoghi. I doppiatori dei personaggi sono, quando possibile, gli stessi della prima serie.
