The film begins with human William Davidge (played by Dennis Quaid) attacking his mortal enemy the drac in a space battle. However the pursuit ends with both parties crash-landing on a deserted planet (Tyrine IV) and the death of Davidge's co-piolet. He was stranded on the planet with the Drac.
In a fit of rage Davidge goes looking for the Drac, to finish the job that he started before the crash.
After finding the Drac a scuffle breaks out and Davidge is on the recieving end - which ends with a weapon being thrust in his face. Much to his suprise the Drac chooses not to kill him. Shortly after a violent meteor shower erupts and Jeriba Shigan (The Drac played by Louis Gossett JR) releases Davidge and the two enemies try to put their hatred for each other to one side, in order to survive.
Both attempt to learn each others language, build a shelter and find food. Years pass and the two enemies grow closer together. Finally a space ship arrives and Davidge thinks that he will be able to get off the planet - but the ship is owned by Scavengers, humans who enslave Dracs to work for them. When he comes back to tell Jeribah, he finds the Drac in labour.
A baby Drac is born.....
What follows is shocking and quite moving completing the story in the most perfect way.
I must say that i was very impressed with the acting displayed by Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett JR in this sci-fi classic, which has all the ingredients needed for a great film. Both actors displayed a wide range of emotions from, anger to sympathy and seriousness to moments of comedy (with one particularly funny comment attributed to Mickey Mouse!)

Handlung [Bearbeiten]

Die Menschheit f�hrt Krieg um ein Planetensystem gegen die echsenartigen Dracs.
Der menschliche Raumj�gerpilot Willis Davidge und der Drac Jeriba Shigan m�ssen
nach einem Raumgefecht auf einem ungastlichen Planeten notlanden. Dort bek�mpfen
sie sich zun�chst weiter auf Leben und Tod. Nachdem Shigan Davidge gefangengenommen
hat, arbeiten sie zusammen, um �berleben zu k�nnen und lernen dabei jeweils die
Sprache des anderen. Nachdem der Drac dem Menschen das Leben gerettet hat, werden
sie schlie�lich Freunde. Als Shigan Nachwuchs erwartet und sp�rt, dass es bei der
Geburt zu Problemen kommen wird, verpflichtet sich Davidge, f�r das Kind zu sorgen.
Damit der junge Drac sp�ter in die Gemeinschaft seines Volkes aufgenommen werden kann,
lernt er die Liste seiner Ahnen auswendig. Shigan stirbt bei der Geburt, und Davidge
zieht dessen Nachkommen Zammis allein auf, bis Menschen, die Dracs als Sklaven halten,
diesen gefangennehmen. Der dabei schwer verwundete Davidge wird sp�ter von einem
Suchtrupp gerettet und zu seiner Raumstation zur�ckgebracht, fliegt aber zur�ck, um
Zammis und die anderen Sklaven zu befreien. Der Film endet damit, dass bei der
Eingliederungszeremonie auf dem Heimatplaneten der Dracs der Name des Menschen in die
Ahnenreihe des jungen Drac aufgenommen wird.

This is another favourite of mine. Someone posted it in DVD a while back and i thought i'd rip it to rmvb. Old school scifi. THIS README IS FOR YOUR INFORMATION. i WOULD ASK THAT YOU READ IT BEFORE SUBMITTING ANY QUESTIONS (or flames). It also makes a good read over a smoke and coffee, while waiting for your file to download. You're free to disregard it, but i think it's worth reading. (c: These files can be played with windows classic media player using the "realplayer alternative" codecs, both found in the klite mega codecs pac included with this download. (or if you like invasive bloatware you can go find real player somewhere). To stem the tide of "enthusiastic" and "intelligent" questions (read: insulting flames in the comments section) i've recieved, let me answer a few right off the top (you'll notice i've had to get slightly creative to turn some flames into questions.) (You'll also notice the unfortunate absence of expletives. Though they would have added much needed colour, i didn't wish to offend delicate ears) Now, on to the questions! Q) "i think realplayer sucks, why are you such a moron?" A) That's a VERY intelligent question! Yes, i don't like realplayer either. In fact i despise it with every fibre of my being. That's why i will never use it. i simply use the VERY nice rmvb format they created and view the movie with the codecs i supply in every file i upload to you our valued customer. Q) "I think avi is better than rmvb, why are you such an braindead idiot?" A) Well me bucko, though i don't think rmvb files are better than avi files in picture quality, i DO think the quality is virtually indistinguishable between an rmvb and an avi of the same rip HOWEVER the rmvb is MUCH smaller. The possibilty remains of course that you are an anal retentive aficionado watching the shows with a 50 inch monitor and a magnifying glass. In such a case i would recommend you buy the DVD. Q) "My friend says rmvb files skip and smear and are generally detestable. Why are you such a self absorbed, insecure chump?" A) Hmm... wha? Sorry, was picking my navel lint... where were we.. oh yes... CHUMP! You can rest assured amigo, my rips don't jitter or skip or die halfway through... no fading or smearing, no belts, no pins, no strings attached! (i can't vouch for the show itself). You'll find only pure unadulterated enjoyment while you sit back, smugly satisfied that you saved another huge hunk of hard drive space by downloading this work of art. Q) "i tried playing this on my livingroom DVD player and it didn't work. You ruined our evening and now my girlfriend hates me. Why are you such a sorry-ass freak?" A) i regret to inform you this will not play on your household DVD player (Unless it supports the rmvb format). Please avoid downloading this file if that is your goal. It will burn as a DATA file, but will NOT burn as a VCD or DVD vob bup file. However, i hear it IS possible to convert to these formats. (see next question) Q) "I tried to convert these to avi files and blew a crater in my basement the size of Arkansas. Why are you such a sniveling pot-bellied yak-hearder?" A) Well mon ami... these rmvb files are sleek, slim and refined... meant for the discerning downloader. Converting these beauties back to avi is like stuffing Kate Beckinsale until she's as fat as the Goodyear blimp, just so she's easier to find in the dark. (YEE!!!) 0: HOWEVER, for those that are looking to convert these for DVD or VCD viewing, i've been informed that Winavi will convert these to mpeg (for VCD) and Cucusoft will convert them to DVD (i've also heard EO video and DVD Santa work just as well[if not better]). Yes, i am but an egg, as i cannot tell you how to go about doing this. i am simply the messenger. Q) "I installed your codecs and my computer blew up and now my life is ruined. Why are you such a vacuous numbskull?" A). i'm glad you asked friend. i'm here to tell you, you don't have to use the codecs i've supplied. Yes, that's right, you're FREEEEE! i include them because i've never had a problem with them (and i'm constantly encoding and watching shows) and, if you're new to rmvb, i want you to have as few problems watching these as possible. If you DO install them, you can select what codecs you do and do NOT want. (i use the default setting) To watch these, if you don't have (or WANT) realplayer, you'll at LEAST need the Real Alternative codecs. Q) Hey, I'm tired of being a sorry-ass leech. Everyone ridicules me. Can you give me the name of that program you use, so i can re-encode my own rmvb's and share them, thus leaving the ranks of "Lame-tards Anonymous" and maybe joining the ranks of "The Greater Coolness"? A) HALLELULIAH BRUDDAH!!! Another convert from leechdom to seedom! Tell you what mate, since i'm a nice guy and i like your style, i'll do you one better and give you the name of ALL the programs i use, so you can rip from the ground up and not have to wait for someone to release an avi. First: DVD Decrypter found here: http://www.rita.lt/video_tools/DVDDecrypterSetup_3.5.4.0.exe For ripping the vob files from a DVD Second: Auto Gordian Knot Rip Pak found here: http://www.rita.lt/video_tools/AutoGordianKnot.2.27.Setup.exe for converting Vob files to avi files. For instructions on how to use DVD Decrypter and AutoGK go here: http://www.rita.lt/guides/AutoGK_DVDtoAVI.htm Third: Easy Realmedia Producer found here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=73228 for re-encoding avi files to rmvb. Ripping and re-encoding is NOT a big mystery. These programs are VERY easy to use and will all work with default setting. Try fiddling with them a bit for fun, but remember, this is VERY system resource intensive (so make your computer work while you're not using it) AND releasing rips of copywritten materials IS illegal but backing up DVDs you already own to keep their data safe is NOT. So be aware of what you're doing, and remember, NO LAME ENCODING YA'HEAR? Nothing worse than a lame encoding job (except private trackers and leeches) (Don't get me started on THOSE) Q) "HEY YOU CLUELESS LAMETARD, WHAT'S WITH THE MORONIC NAMING OF YOUR FILES???" A) Well my fine fellow, i'll be GLAD to explain it to you! Let me take you through the naming process: 1) First comes the name, i.e. Lucky.Number.Slevin (what a lame-ass name for a movie. Someone needs a good slap upside the head for that!) 2) Then comes the rip type (Telesync[TS] Camera[Cam] VHS screener [VHS Scr] or just [SCR] DVD screener [DVDScr] or DVDRip) Etc. 3) The rip process (dimensions [720x340] Codecs [XViD] and sound [AC3 5.1]).Dimensions will usually accompany my personal rips to denote their high quality. 4) Then comes the ripper or encoder's signature (usually preceeded with a "-" Such as -aXXo -DiAMoND or in my case -NDR.RMVB In all cases i will put my encoding signature BEHIND the original XViD ripper's signature unless it's my own rip or if the ripper's signature wasn't supplied with the original downloaded file. Such a file ends up looking like this: Big.Trouble.in.little.China.DVDRip-NDR.rmvb If i knew the original ripper it would look something like this: The.Incredibles.DVDRIP.720x304-DragonRipper624-NDR.rmvb 5) NOW comes the folder; First, i capitalize the rmvb because my re-encode title IS NDR.RMVB Then, as the folder contains MORE than just the movie i also add the "+KLMCodec.Pak". Also note, the original ripper's tag may be cut from the folder name if the folder title is too long, to save space, but it remains on the file inside. Capiche?
