Ansiosi di entrare in azione e impressionati dall\'efficienza dei loro salvatori, si candidano entrambi al corso di formazione della Squadra d\'Elite. La fama di integrità e dinamicità dei due giovani è già arrivata al Battaglione, che li ammette al corso comandato da Nascimento. Il primo si distingue per il coraggio. Il secondo per l\'intelligenza. Se potesse unire in un solo individuo queste due qualità, il capitano Nascimento avrebbe trovato il suo successore.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> RECENSIONE<br /> <br /> <br /> Il film più costoso della storia brasiliana (grazie anche alla co-produzione dei fratelli Weinstein, gli ex capi Miramax), nonché Orso d’oro all’ultimo Festival di Berlino, è una storia forte e spettacolare destinata a dividere in due in pubblico. Alcuni critici stranieri lo hanno definito un film \"fascista\", in Brasile, al di là dell’enorme successo di pubblico (si calcola ad esempio che il dvd contraffatto, uscito ancor prima della distribuzione in sala, sia stato visto da 3 milioni di persone) ha suscitato diverse polemiche.<br /> Il perché è presto detto: la \"tropa de elite\" del titolo, ossia i corpi scelti della polizia che qui sono protagonisti, sono rappresentati come uomini ben lontani dai normali agenti di giustizia brasiliani famosi per la propria corruttibilità, ma come veri e propri militari iper-addestrati che non rispettano i diritti più elementari dell’uomo (leggasi tortura) pur di far rispettare l’ordine. E’ dal loro punto di vista che assistiamo alle innumerevoli retate avvenute nel 1997 in una favela di Rio de Janeiro nei mesi precedenti alla venuta del Papa. Ecco quindi le polemiche: da una parte le vere \"tropa de elite\" che lamentano esagerazioni, dall’altra le critiche di chi vede in questo film una glorificazione di un modus operandi violento quasi quanto la criminalità che si dovrebbe combattere.<br /> Il regista e co-sceneggiatore del film, José Padilha in realtà non sembra voler prendere posizione. Molti passaggi narrativi, su tutti l’addestramento (che richiama un pò Full metal jacket), giocano sul filo dell’ironia. La stessa voce fuori campo del capitano Nascimiento mitiga più volte la crudezza delle immagini e degli atteggiamenti dei vari personaggi relazionando le sue azioni alla sua situazione personale (e cioè a quella di un poliziotto che vuole andarsene dal corpo perché aspetta un figlio e non vuol più rischiare la vita), anziché alla violazione del più normale senso dell’etica. La normalità con cui si presentano gli episodi tragici della vicenda lasciano da parte qualsiasi giudizio morale per diventare rappresentazione di una situazione ineluttabile. Se una critica c’è, è generale. Da una parte i criminali trafficanti, dall’altra i poliziotti o corrotti o esaltati, in mezzo una borghesia ipocrita che non fa autocritica. E’ senza dubbio vero che tra tutte queste figure lo spettatore medio tende ad immedesimarsi di più con gli squadroni di giustizia finendo col giustificare anche, in parte, i loro comportamenti, ma se ciò avviene è più per l’assenza di alternative che da una radicata convinzione che sia giusto fare così.<br /> Con un ritmo sostenuto che nulla ha da invidiare ai più riusciti blockbuster d’oltreoceano, Tropa de morte riesce a ritrarre uno spaccato del Brasile già intravisto nel fino ad ora più importante film verdeoro di quest’inizio secolo, \"City of god\" (con il quale condivide anche lo sceneggiatore Bràulio Mantovani). Un film multistrato che piacerà a molti.
