Kyle (Matt Dallas) è un ragazzo sedicenne che si risveglia nella foresta vicina a Seattle, completamente nudo e senza alcuna memoria della sua vita passata. Si comporta come una specie di neonato per quanto riguarda le norme di comportamento sociali: non conosce le cose più semplici come bere o mangiare e non sa nemmeno parlare. Mentre egli vaga nudo per la città vicina, la polizia lo prende in custodia e, non trovando alcun dato su di lui, lo mette in un centro per ragazzi a rischio dove alcune persone si accorgono del suo strano comportamento e del fatto che non ha l\'ombelico. Nicole Trager (Marguerite MacIntyre), una terapista a cui Kyle viene affidato, si rende conto che quest\'ultimo non è adatto al luogo in cui si trova e decide di portarlo a casa, dalla sua famiglia, mentre la polizia ne ricerca le origini biologiche, ma senza alcun risultato. A quel punto Nicole decide di adottarlo e la serie narra i tentativi della famiglia Trager di assicurargli un futuro normale, insegnandogli ciò che non sa. Kyle XY è una serie televisiva statunitense creata da ABC Family che narra le vicende di Kyle, un ragazzo risvegliatosi in una foresta nei pressi di Seattle (Washington) senza alcuna memoria della sua vita fino a quel momento. La serie racconta la vita di Kyle ed i suoi tentativi di rispondere alle domande su chi sia, perché non abbia l\'ombelico e perché non ricordi nulla della sua infanzia. Durante la sua permanenza dai Trager, Kyle verrà a contatto con alcune sue straordinarie capacità che neanche egli sa spiegare.
La serie ha esordito il 26 giugno 2006 sul network americano ABC Family con una prima stagione composta da 10 episodi; visto l\'ottimo andamento degli ascolti, si è girata una seconda stagione di 23 episodi partita l\'11 giugno 2007 sullo stesso canale. ABC Family Network ha confermato la produzione della terza stagione, per il momento prevista di 10 episodi, e il debutto è previsto per il 12 gennaio 2009. Tuttavia, visto il brusco calo di ascolti all\'inizio della terza stagione, il 2 febbraio 2009, il network ha annunciato la cancellazione del telefilm che si concluderà quindi al termine della terza stagione. Precedentemente a questa decisione, era già stato pensato il finale della serie: la sceneggiatrice ha quindi rilasciato un\'intervista durante la quale ha rivelato ciò che prevedeva la quarta stagione.

I restanti episodi della seconda stagione sono andati in onda dal 4 aprile 2009 ogni sabato alle 14.50 con un doppio episodio settimanale, sempre su Fox. La terza, ed ultima, stagione va in onda su Fox dal 22 Settembre 2009 alle 21:10. Sia esso compiuto o subito. E quando la situazione varia, Bob non sa come gestirla, ci prova, a volte ci riesce, a volte no, perch?? la natura di un uomo ?? impossibile da cambiare. La claustrofobia ?? palpabile. Il dramma di una vita, percepibile. E poi la solitudine, la routine dannata e amata. I sentimenti nell'esistenza di un uomo piccolo piccolo, compaiono, e sono distruttivi, non lasciano speranza. Cambiano le regole e modificano l'equilibrio gi?? precario. Il film di Frank Cappello ?? un ritratto intimo di un uomo, Bob (Christian Slater), che non ?? depresso, ma ?? chiuso nella sua dimensione limitata priva di uscite, che fa quello che deve fare, che viene trattato come l'ultimo della scala gerarchica, e che si consola con una bambolina che fa l'Hula Hoop appoggiata sul suo separ??. Cappello per?? non si limita a descrivere, ma entra nel personaggio, lo riprende da vicino distorcendone le fattezze del volto per esagerarne il modo di essere e di apparire. Quando accade il dramma, poi, il percorso di Bob ?? quello di un pesce fuor d'acqua (a differenza di quello che ha nell'acquario) che prima sembra uscire dalla propria condizione per poi ricadere nel baratro. Christian Slater non solito a performance impegnate, abbandona i ruoli di 'eterno giovane' e si mette in gioco con una parte difficile, al limite, dando prova delle sue capacit?? attoriali. L'insieme degli elementi che costituiscono Un uomo qualunque si allontanano dalla classica fotografia dell'ufficio e degli impiegati, per concentrarsi su un uomo che ?? una bomba a orologeria. Tutto ?? piatto, rituale, fino a quando non subentra il sentimento che rompe gli equilibri e accende una miccia. Non ci sono mezzi termini, tutto ?? esagerato, e tutto ?? estremamente reale per condurre lo spettatore in una vita mediocre che si accende solo quando si contraddice. Senza sorrisi n?? pianti.
