Tre amiche di Chicago che formano un trio musicale chiamato \"The Dreamettes\" accettano l\'offerta di un manager di diventare coriste di un famoso cantante. E\' il loro trampolino verso il successo, che arriva ed é grandissimo. Le tre amiche si accorgerYears però che nel mondo della musica non é tutto oro quello che luccica.

A 25 anni esatti dal trionfale debutto sotto i riflettori di Broadway, il musical \"Dreamgirls\" si prepara ad una seconda vita nell\'omonima trasposizione cinematografica che sta per invadere le sale di tutto il mondo.
Le precedenti opere del regista Bill Condon di certo non sembravano presagire un interesse dell\'autore per coreografie e canzoni (\"Demoni e dei\" affrontava gli ultimi giorni di vita di James Whale, \"Kinsey\" si interessava agli studi di un famoso psicologo americano), eppure il nome di Condon è legato ad un altro musical di successo, il pluripremiato \"Chicago\", del quale ha firmato l\'adattamento per il grande schermo.
Esattamente come fu per \"Chicago\" tre anni fa, c\'è da scommettere che alla prossima notte degli Oscar il titolo \"Dreamgirls\" sarà pronunciato diverse volte all\'apertura delle fantomatiche buste contenenti i nomi dei vincitori. Meritatamente? Sì e no, ma procediamo con ordine.
Da un punto di vista squisitamente tecnico nulla da dire, il film si regge per intero, facile intuirlo, su una trascinante colonna sonora e sull\'ottima qualità di costumi e scenografia, una vera meraviglia per gli occhi valorizzata da una fotografia che riesce a ricreare con scrupolosa fedeltà i favolosi anni della soul music.
Gli irripetibili \'60-\'70 fYears da sfondo alla clamorosa scalata al successo canoro di tre talentuose ragazze di colore: le \"Dreamgirls\" per l\'appunto.
La rutilante e coloratissima operazione nostalgia però, pure se ben confezionata, presenta purtroppo su altri fronti qualche neo. La caratterizzazione schematica dei personaggi e la regia priva di personalità appiattiscono la pellicola. \"Dreamgirls\" segue un percorso narrativo classico che più classico non si può, ricalcato senza molta fantasia dal modello \"E\' nata una stella\": i timidi esordi delle nostre tra un\'audizione e l\'altra, poi il primo passo importante con il contratto da coriste, il boom come gruppo solista accompagnato dall\'immancabile ombra minacciosa del duro prezzo da pagare per restare sulla cresta dell\'onda, un dietro le quinte di rivalità, sacrifici, tradimenti e gelosie che porterYears all\'inevitabile dolceamaro epilogo.
Non mancano comunque momenti coinvolgenti grazie alle dignitose performances dell\'ex Destiny\'s Child Beyoncé Knowles e del resto del cast, praticamente all black, dove spicca uno strepitoso ed inedito Eddie Murphy nella parte di James \"Thunder\" Early (vera bestia da palcoscenico a metà tra James Brown e Little Richard): tutti rimangono però offuscati dall\'ingombrante presenza, in tutti i sensi, dell\'esordiente Jennifer Hudson, l\'unica che sembra davvero metterci l\'anima.
Non si dimentica facilmente la disperata voglia di riscatto della sua Effie White. Forse i primi a ricordarsi di questa intensa interpretazione sarYears i membri dell\'Academy, di solito non insensibili alla realtà che si trasforma in favola. Proprio loro potrebbero regalare alla Cenerentola soprappeso sconfitta nel televisivo \"American idol\" una sorprendente rivincita agli Oscar, decretando così ufficialmente che è nata una (nuova) stella. History Repeating...

Non mancano comunque momenti coinvolgenti grazie alle dignitose performances dell\'ex Destiny\'s Child Beyoncé Knowles e del resto del cast, praticamente all black, dove spicca uno strepitoso ed inedito Eddie Murphy nella parte di James \"Thunder\" Early (vera bestia da palcoscenico a metà tra James Brown e Little Richard): tutti rimangono però offuscati dall\'ingombrante presenza, in tutti i sensi, dell\'esordiente Jennifer Hudson, l\'unica che sembra davvero metterci l\'anima.
Non si dimentica facilmente la disperata voglia di riscatto della sua Effie White. Forse i primi a ricordarsi di questa intensa interpretazione saranno i membri dell\'Academy, di solito non insensibili alla realtà che si trasforma in favola. Proprio loro potrebbero regalare alla Cenerentola soprappeso sconfitta nel televisivo \"American idol\" una sorprendente rivincita agli Oscar, decretando così ufficialmente che è nata una (nuova) stella.
