Napoli 1944. Il generale Cork, comandante della Quinta Armata americana, è preso dalle trattative con Marzullo, mafioso locale, che per consegnarli 112 tedeschi, catturati durante le quattro giornate di insurrezione, esige dagli americani una tangente di cento lire al chilo, suscettibile di forti aumenti, per ogni prigioniero. Il tramite per condurre il patteggiamento è Curzio Malaparte a cui viene anche dato l\'incarico, per compiacere la moglie aviatrice di un senatore americano, di organizzare una cena stile Rinascimento che ha come clou un pesce, una \"sirena\" dell\'acquario di Napoli, che sembra una bambina. Intanto nei \"bassi\" le madri vendono i figli ai marocchini e Jim, il giovane tenente di collegamento, si innamora di una ragazzina che scoprirà poi essere esposta dal padre a pagamento, come unica vergine esistente in città. Malaparte si muove in questo inferno con distacco mentre cerca di spiegare all\'aviatrice durante un\'orgia di omosessuali, che è la potenza corruttrice degli americani che ha ridotto in tal modo la povera gente. Il Vesuvio si scatena improvvisamente in una eruzione durante la quale l\'aviatrice subisce una crudele esperienza da parte di un gruppo di soldati ubriachi e stravolti. Un\'esperienza che la porta allo stesso livello di tutte le donne innocenti e vinte. Il film si conclude con l\'arrivo a Roma della Quinta Armata attraverso l\'Appia Antica, e chi ne fa le spese, con la propria pelle, è un poveraccio che l\'entusiasmo della liberazione fa finire sotto un carro armato.

The NASL made very little impact in the US, where soccer had virtually no following, until in 1975 the New York Cosmos succeeded in signing the most famous player in the world, Pele. Attendence for Cosmos games exploded, outdrawing even the New York Giants and New York Jets of the NFL, to where exhibition games in Seattle were drawing huge crowds, and when Pele announced his retirement in 1977 his final game drew the biggest crowd to ever see a soccer game in the US. Brainman/The Boy With The Incredible Brain 2005 Many people learnt of Daniel for the first time through the award-winning documentary 'Brainman' (titled 'The Boy With The Incredible Brain' in the UK). Filmed in 2004, it shows Daniel reciting the famous mathematical constant Pi from memory to 22,514 digits - a European record - before travelling to the United States to be studied by brain scientists in California, beat the house at blackjack in Las Vegas and meet the original 'Rain Man' Kim Peek in Salt Lake City. Daniel is also given the challenge to learn a new language - Icelandic - from scratch in just seven days, before an interview in Reykjavik entirely in the home language.
