The KeyGens are MONEY and everything works perfectly. Nice job, ladies/gents! I just write the instructions and test the shit... here we go: 1.) DISCONNECT FROM THE INTERNET!!! COMPLETELY! I wouldn't even fuck around. Don't be cute. Just pull the cord out from the back of the computer, or in the case of wireless, disable the relevant network adapter. Again, you've been WARNED: you must either disconnect Internet access during this process or, if you insist on remaining connected (you indignant prick), use a firewall to block all access to the Internet temporarily. You can also use a firewall to block just Chief Architect from connecting. The installer will try to activate Chief Architect via net. If it can't, it will then ask you to enter the code which it assumes you got over the phone, BUT THE CODE IS GIVEN TO YOU IN THE INCLUDED KEYGEN. The included KeyGen WILL NOT WORK if: a) You update to v11.3 before registering the software; or b) You are connected to the internet when trying to enter the CD Key. 2.) Mount "Chief X1 DVD.iso" with an application such as Daemon Tools. Launch the installer from the DVD if your operating system is not configured to launch it automatically. 3.) Once the installation has completed (if the installation failed already, you're on your own), launch Chief Architect. The Registration Wizard will appear. Click Next. 4.) At this point, you'll want to use the included KeyGen to generate a valid serial (the KeyGen is called caX1key.exe and is inside the "KeyGen" directory on the DVD ISO). Copy the serial number that appears in the first field of the KeyGen. LEAVE THE KEYGEN OPEN; we will need it in a moment. 5.) Paste-in the serial that you got from the KeyGen when prompted. (Note: The fucking stupid installer makes you paste the serial in two parts. Be careful here.) 6.) I would advise you against using your real name (or any real information) here. Just choose a fake (and ideally, humorous) name and use a fake email address. We won't be needing assistance with our serial key from Home Design in the future ;-). Click OK to the stupid prompt concerning the accuracy of your email address. 7.) All of the fields on the Mailing Address screen are optional. Leave them all blank. click Next. 8.) OK, when you click Next on the Online Registration screen, you SHOULD receive an error about no connection being established with the registration server (this is because, if you had your head out of your ass, you disabled your Internet access in Step 1). Click Cancel to the message. This will allow us to use the phone activation method. Fortunately, we won't actually be calling anybody. The KeyGen serves as the serial generator AND the automated phone activation system =). 9.) Manually record the information from the "Password Not Obtained" dialog that is now showing in the Registration Wizard (both fields), and type the info into the matching fields in the KeyGen. PAY THE HELL ATTENTION HERE: the "Your name" and "User code" fields in the KeyGen are in the opposite order that the fields appear in the Registration Wizard (but we ain't complain'!). I love how these motherfucks make it as difficult as possible to copy/paste anything within 10 feet of an installer these days. 10.) Press the big fucking "Generate" button in the KeyGen. This will populate the "User pswd" field. Again, you will have to copy each half of the password separately and paste each into the Registration wizard (in the User Password field, obviously). Hit Next. 11.) If you followed directions, your software should now be registered. You don't need to write-down any of this information (you can print it if you like... but it's evidence ;-)). The v11.4.1.7 KeyGen, which we'll use in a moment, operates independently and 12.) Press Finish and Chief Architect build 11.0.6.41 (April 11, 2007) will be launched. 13.) Move onto Read Me Part 2. NOTE: You might also like to go into Services and disable HASP License Manager that runs as a service. It's related to Chief copy protection and the piece of shit stays active even after an uninstall. Near as I can tell, the application will run just fine with the service disabled. Fuck 'em!!! Fuck iTunes. Fuck Apple. Fuck Apple fanboys. ================================== PART 2 of 2 =================================== 1.) Launch the official Chief Architect updater (the file name is X1_full_5_4.exe, and assuming nobody has fucked with anything, the EXE should be inside a "Official Home Design Update to 11.5.4.17" folder). If you followed directions from Read Me Part 1, grab your registration information that you used to register the software. You will need this information once the updater finishes. (Note: the goddamn updater takes a week and a day... go grab a beer and a bong-rip.) 2.) Launch Chief Architect 11.5.4.17 (this should be your currect version after installing X1_full_5_4.exe). The Registration Wizard will open again; this is supposed to happen. All of the registration fields should be populated with the information from your previous registration. YES, the v11.4.1.7 KeyGen works to register v11.5.4.17! Neat-o! Thanks, snowPanther!!! Let's do that next. 3.) Open the "Chief Architect X1 v11.4.1.7 Keygen" folder and run the KeyGen. (This KeyGen LOOKS the same as the first one we used, but it is, in fact, a different KeyGen.) Transcribe each field from the Registration Wizard into the respective fields in the KeyGen. This is essentially the exact same process that we followed in Part 1, but with a different KeyGen. 4.) Press the big "Generate" button in the KeyGen and you will be given your "User pswd". Paste this password (in two separate parts) into the appropriate field in the Registration Wizard. Click Finish! 5.) Enjoy!
