La sua chitarra sempre a cavallo tra rock, jazz e blues con un tocco di sonorità latine ha ci ha regalato negli anni grandi emozioni; Ma questo “Shaman” è un disco brutto, capita anche ai più grandi di sbagliare un disco per carità ma la sensazione che lascia questo ultimo lavoro di Santana è veramente fastidiosa, le 15 tracce che compongono questo disco sembrano essere gli scarti del bellissimo e precedente Supernatural, non lo sono ovviamente ma come per il precedente la soluzione dei duetti era stata vincente per questo lavoro sembra essere al servizio del businnes. Tra gli ospiti presenti in Shaman c’è davvero di tutto, da Dido ai P.O.D. passando per Placido Domingo ma niente sembra funzionare davvero bene, qualche brano è carino come il singolo di lancio “The game of love” che pur suonando molto simile ai vari singoli di Supernatural è comunque un brano piacevole, uno dei pochi direi visto che gli altri sono davvero improbabili partendo da “America” con i P.O.D. che con tutto il rispetto con la musica di Santana c’entrano davvero poco, stesso discorso vale per “ Why don’you & I” che vede la collaborazione di Chad Kroeger dei Nickelback. L’effetto che si ha sentendo questi brani è la sensazione che le varie voci siano un corpo estraneo rispetto alla musica che i Santana suonano, anche un cantante che personalmente ammiro come Seal rimane coinvolto in questo improbabile frullato sonoro. Si salvano solo gli strumentali ( e non è un caso la chitarra di Carlos è sempre magica) e il gia citato singolo, simpatico anche il duetto con Dido, da evitare “ Amore (sexo)” con Macy Gray. La domanda ora viene spontanea. Ma che c’entra tutta questa gente con Carlos? Niente! Però sono tutti personaggi di successo sotto l’ala protettrice di mamma MTV ed è proprio questo a suscitare la sensazione di fastidio a cui mi riferivo prima.
