Struggente. La seconda regia americana dopo il grande successo de La ricerca della felicità, Gabriele Muccino la mette al servizio di una storia strappalacrime che esige un tale coinvolgimento emotivo da rendere arduo un obiettivo e distaccato giudizio sul film stesso, posto che giudicare imponga inequivocabilmente una presa di posizione. Sette anime è la sua opera più coraggiosa dove amore e dolore giungono a strazianti estremità, toccano le viscere dell’animo umano costringendo a tempi lunghi prima di approfondire a mente fredda.

Commoventi sono anche le interpretazioni dei due protagonisti Will Smith e Rosario Dawson, bellissimi nella costante sofferenza che i loro volti sono in grado sostenere per tutto il film. E anche in questo caso, come in ogni suo precedente lavoro, Muccino dimostra il talento che lo contraddistingue nella direzione degli attori. La storia di Sette anime grondava di trappole eppure gli interpreti non recitano mai sopra le righe, incluso Woody Harrelson nei panni di un pianista cieco.

Un uomo pianifica la sua redenzione dopo aver provocato la morte di sette persone in un incidente stradale. Ciò che ha in mente è ridare speranza (e vita) ad altrettante persone a lui estranee che si trovano in grave difficoltà. Ma il film inizia a metà dello sviluppo e ci vogliono tre buoni quarti d’ora prima che si riesca a mettere insieme qualche pezzo. Una scelta mirata a tenere impegnato il pubblico nella ricostruzione della storia per alleggerirne l’impatto psicologico e spirituale. A tal proposito svelare il disegno ultimo del personaggio di Will Smith sarebbe doppiamente crudele.

Difficile credere che Sette anime sia stato prodotto da una major di Hollywood. Il film ha disturbato non poco la critica americana che si è dichiarata addirittura inorridita scagliandosi contro Will Smith. Recensioni scritte a caldissimo da critici indubbiamente scossi e turbati. La risposta del pubblico è stata buona considerando proprio l’acceso dibattito che qualunque sala cinematografica con il film in programmazione scatenerà dopo i titoli di coda. Se i personaggi di Will Smith e Rosario Dawson sono legati per questioni di cuore, non solo metaforicamente, è il cuore che questo film decide di toccare. E lo fa, nella buona e nella cattiva sorte.

James Logan aka Wolverine and his brother Victor Creed (who will later become Sabretooth) run away together as children in the mid 1850\'s after Logan kills their biological father who had murdered Logan\'s adoptive father. After serving together in many wars they are recruited by William Stryker to serve in a special unit made up of mutants. After wiping out an African villiage, Logan quits the unit and goes off to live a life of peace in the Canadian Rockies with his girlfriend later to be known as the Silver Fox.

Six years pass for the both of them until Stryker shows up and asks Logan to come back and be a part of a new Weapon X project. Logan refuses but Creed shows up and murders Logan\'s girlfriend leaving him wanting revenge against his brother. Logan accepts Strykers offer to be infused with Adamantium so that he can be indestructable and go after his revenge but is double crossed by Stryker and hears him give the order to wipe his memories. Escaping before this can happen, he goes searching for Creed killing anyone who gets in his way.

After reuniting with a few members of his old team, he finds out that Stryker and Creed are actually working together to kidnap mutants and keep them in confinement working on a new project, Weapon XI and that only one person knows where their new base of operations is. Remy LeBeau aka Gambit is the only mutant to escape this place and Logan along with John Wraith go searching for him in New Orleans. They find him in a card game where Logan tries to question him but with less than desireable results. After being blasted through a wall by Gambit, Logan sees Creed standing over the dead body of Wraith and the fight is on. Right when Logan is about to get his revenge and kill Creed, Gambit comes flying in with his staff and blows everyone apart. Creed uses this distraction to escape while Logan and Gambit go at it. After showing Gambit the light (with his claws), Gambit agrees to take Logan to Three Mile Island where the facility is hidden.
