Geht es nach den im texanischen Austin ansässigen Midway Studios ist die Sache klar: In und um &quot;Dreamland&quot;, wie das militärische Sperrgebiet gemeinhin bezeichnet wird, tobt ein erbitterter Krieg zwischen blutrünstigen außerirdischen Lebensformen und Sondereinheiten der Regierung.<br /> <br /> Die Hölle über Rachel<br /> In dem Städtchen Rachel, das irgendwo im Nirgendwo in der Wüste Nevadas liegt, bietet sich uns gleich zu Spielbeginn ein grausames Bild der Zerstörung: Ganze Wohnblöcke sind dem Erdboden gleichgemacht, umgestürzte Strommasten versperren den Weg und der sich verdunkelnde Himmel droht den Ort in einem erbarmungslosen Schattenmeer versinken zu lassen. Woher die intergalaktischen Invasoren stammen? Keine Ahnung. Was sie wollen? Irrelevant! Entscheidend ist einzig das Überleben der menschlichen Rasse! Entsprechend ist unser Auftrag in dem gezeigten Demolevel klar definiert: &quot;Gebieten sie den Aggressoren Einhalt  koste es, was es wolle!&quot; Ausgestattet mit einer Hand voll Granaten, einem durchschlagskräftigen Schnellfeuergewehr und im Schutze unserer Squads stellen wir uns schließlich der Invasion entgegen. Schon wenige Sekunden nachdem wir Fuß auf den von Regen und Blut unserer Kameraden durchtränkten Boden gesetzt haben, wird uns das Ausmaß der Bedrohung klar: Auf den Straßen des dem Untergang geweihten Rachel lauern Dutzende von blutrünstigen Gegnern, die uns nach dem Leben trachten. Das Vorgehen der Aliens, die bisweilen frappierend an die Bugs aus 'Starship Troopers' erinnern, ist dabei rabiat: Gefangene werden nicht gemacht. Wer unterlegen ist, stirbt. Nur wer mit einem flinken Zeigefinger und Nerven aus Stahl gesegnet ist, kann gegen die erdrückende Übermacht bestehen. Plötzlich einstürzende Wände, der beißende Knall neuer Explosionen und die schmerzerfüllten Schreie unserer Kameraden erzeugen bereits in dem Demolevel eine ungemein dichte Atmosphäre.<br /> <br /> Unkomplizierte Action<br /> 'Blacksite: Area 51' setzt dabei konsequent auf gescriptete Ereignisse, welche uns immer wieder vor neue Herausforderungen stellen und einen straffen Spielablauf garantieren. Denn wie schon sein erfolgreicher Vorgänger, mit dem sich das Sequel außer dem 'Area 51' im Titel laut Aussagen der Entwickler übrigens nichts teilt, präsentiert sich 'Blacksite' als äußerst geradliniger First-Person-Shooter. Es kracht und scheppert an allen Enden, meterhohe Bossgegner schlucken noch immer am liebsten Blei und mit unserem gut sortierten Waffenarsenal haben wir für Dschungeltänzer John Rambo bestenfalls ein müdes Lächeln übrig. Einzige Ausnahme: Weil ihr in 'Blacksite' die Rolle eines Squad-Kommandanten verkörpert, müsst ihr euren Jungs ab und an mittels Druck auf eine der Schultertasten levelspezifische Befehle zuweisen: Deckung suchen, Sprengladungen an Türen anbringen oder die verdammte Alienbrut aufs Korn nehmen. Das war's! &quot;Wir wollen eben vor allem unkomplizierte Action vermitteln und den Spieler nicht überfordern&quot;, erklärt Entwickler Midway dazu.<br /> <br /> Man merkt 'Blacksite: Area 51' schon im Demolevel an, dass sich auch bislang &quot;unbescholtene&quot; Naturen im Spiel sofort zurechtfinden sollen: Ein moderater Waffenrückstoß, äußerst großzügig bemessene Hitboxen und eine optional zuschaltbare Lock-on-Funktion untermauern bereits in der uns gezeigten Version den Eindruck zusätzlich. Ansonsten scheint Midway handwerklich sehr gute Arbeit abzuliefern: Die verwendete 'Stranglehold'-Engine stellt weitläufige Außenareale überzeugend dar, surreale Lichteffekte sorgen für ein mulmiges Gefühl im Bauch und die Steuerung geht bereits zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt überraschend gut von der Hand. Einmal von den erheblichen Slow-downs abgesehen, die getrost dem aktuellen Entwicklungsstand zugeschrieben werden dürfen, besteht primär vor allem bei der Künstlichen Intelligenz der Gegner Verbesserungsbedarf. Selbst für einen kernigen Ego-Shooter wird in diesem Punkt noch zu wenig geboten. Unsere computergesteuerten Aggressoren lassen schlaue Verhaltensroutinen vermissen und werden bestenfalls durch ihre schiere Masse, nicht aber durch ihre Klasse gefährlich.<br /> <br /> Was es sonst noch zu sagen gibt<br /> Abgerundet wird schließlich der positive Ersteindruck, den wir von dem Spiel gewinnen konnten, durch einige nette Features, die wir zwar noch nicht selbst begutachten konnten, aber laut Midway noch implementiert werden sollen: So verspricht der Entwickler für die fertige Verkaufsversion unter anderem eine grtenteils zerstörbare Levelumgebung, einen kooperativen Mehrspieler-Modus und eine ausgefeilte Hintergrundgeschichte. Für diese zeichnet übrigens Susan O'Connor verantwortlich, die eine erste Kostprobe ihres Könnens kürzlich bei 'Gears of War' abgegeben hat.
