La Galleria degli Uffizi è il secondo museo in Italia per numero di visitatori , che ospita un superba raccolta di opere d’arte provenienti da un passato

ricco di creatività e fervida fantasia artistica, che comprende tra l’altro la maggiore collezione di dipinti del Botticelli, divisa in varie sale allestite

per scuole e stili in ordine cronologico.
Voluta da Cosimo I intorno alla metà del 500, la Galleria fu progettata dall’architetto Giorgio Vasari con lo scopo di ospitare le tredici magistrature, o

Uffizi, da cui il Palazzo prenderà il nome, ubicate allora in sedi separate. Fu Francesco I poi , a realizzarci all’interno una vera e propria Galleria

d’opere d’arte per deliziare il suo passaggio all’interno del palazzo.
La Galleria degli Uffizi è collegata a Palazzo Pitti, attraverso un passaggio sopraelevato, che si origina al secondo corridoio della Galleria e che si

estende poi lungo l’Arno, sopra il Ponte Vecchio, fino a raggiungere la residenza della famiglia Medici dall’altra parte del fiume, Palazzo Pitti appunto.
Il Corridoio fu realizzato in soli 5 mesi per volere del Granduca Cosimo I, con lo scopo di agevolare il passaggio tra gli Uffici dei Medici all’interno

della Galleria degli Uffizi e l’allora residenza (Palazzo Pitti). Il mercato delle carni che si svolgeva su Ponte Vecchio fu trasferito per evitare cattivi

odori al passaggio del granduca e al suo posto furono spostate le botteghe degli orafi che ancora oggi occupano il ponte.
Questa struttura, lunga un chilometro, ospita oggi sia una parte della collezione di dipinti del Seicento e del Settecento degli Uffizi che quella degli

autoritratti degli artisti e rappresenta l’ambiente che probabilmente suscita maggiori fantasie nel visitatore.
Se dal punto di vista architettonico la concezione di un ambiente di passaggio sopraelevato è stata molto innovativa, l’interno oltre alle già citate

collezioni si distingue soprattutto per la scenografica vista sul Fiume e sulla Chiesa di Santa Felicita. In realtà dal corridoio si può vedere l’interno

della Chiesa stessa così come lo vedevano i Medici quando assistevano alle funzioni; lungo una parete c’è infatti una finestra che si affaccia su quello che

un tempo era il palco privato della famiglia.

The Uffizi Gallery is the second museum in Italy for visitors number, hosting a wonderful masterpieces collection coming from a rich past of creativity and

artistic fantasy, that includes also the main Botticelli’s paintings collection, divided in different halls according to styles and schools, in a

chronological order.
Wanted by Cosimo I, around the first half of XVI cent., the Gallery was planned by the architect Giorgio Vasari, in order to host the thirteen “offices” or

“Uffizi” from which the building will take the name, before located in different seats. Francesco I then , decided to carry out there a real Art Gallery to

delight his passage inside the building.

The Uffizi Gallery is connected to Pitti Palace through a raised passage, originating in the Gallery’s second corridor and extending along the river to reach

the Medici familiy’s residence, on the other side of the river, just Pitti Palace.
The Corridor was realized in only 5 months for the Granduke Cosimo I’s will, in order to facilitate the passage between the Medici’s Offices, inside the

Uffizi Gallery and the then residence (Pitti Palace). The meat market taking place on the Old bridge was removed to avoid bad smells during the Granduke’s

passage and it was replaced by some gold shops that still today occupy the bridge.
The raised passage, one kilometre long, hosts today a part of the Uffizi’s paintings collection and the biggest portraits selection in the world and it

probably represents the most suggestive place for the visitor, evocating fantasies If under an architectural point of view, the idea of a raised passage was

very innovative, the interior, besides the mentioned collections, distinguish itself overall by a scenographical view on the river and on the Santa Felicita

Church.
In reality, from the corridor it is possible to see the interior of the church as so the Medici family saw it when they assisted the Mass, without being seen

by the people staying at the ground floor ; along a wall there is indeed a window facing the original Medicean stage.[/b][/color]

(1944)

Il 17 gennaio 1944 ebbe inizio una delle più sanguinose e devastanti battaglie della seconda guerra mondiale: la battaglia di Monte Cassino.
La Linea Gustav, posizionata dai tedeschi nei pressi della città di Cassino per bloccare l’avanzata verso il Nord dell’Italia delle truppe alleate sbarcate in Sicilia, fu il teatro di violentissimi scontri da gennaio a maggio del ’44.
Gli alleati sferrarono attacchi distruttivi, ma i tedeschi seppero resistere e contrattaccare, mantenendo la loro posizione ben salda sull’altura della famosa abbazia benedettina di Monte Cassino.
Il numero della vittime dello scontro fu enorme. L’esito della battaglia di Monte Cassino, che culminò con la liberazione di Roma, fu un momento decisivo della seconda guerra mondiale.
Il DVD presenta in maniera dettagliata, attraverso immagini di repertorio ed efficaci ricostruzioni di computer grafica, tutte le fasi della battaglia, dallo sbarco di Anzio alla distruzione dell’abbazia, fino all’operazione finale che portò alla vittoria delle truppe alleate.
