Funeral is the debut album by Canadian rock band Arcade Fire, released on September 14, 2004 on Merge Records. It was given its title because several band members had recently lost members of their families: R??gine Chassagne's grandmother died in June 2003, Win and William Butler's grandfather (swing musician Alvino Rey) in February 2004, and Richard Reed Parry's aunt in April 2004. Preliminary recordings for Funeral were made during the course of a week in August 2003 at the Hotel2Tango in Montreal, Quebec, and the recording was completed later that year. The album received wide critical acclaim and was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2005 for Best Alternative Music Album. It was ranked eighth in Bob Mersereau's 2007 book The Top 100 Canadian Albums. Notes:
The Rock en Seine footage was broadcast in 16:9 letterboxed in a 4:3 display. I found this a little distracting so it was cropped and resized so that it displayed neatly on my WS TV. If you are only interested in proper DVB-S captures, set your BT client to ignore VTS_02_1 and reauthor to suit. Personally, I don't think there should be too many complaints about the image quality although the extra encoding has increased the overall file size. I've only added this footage here for want of somewhere else to use it!

An exciting and passionate performance by a band who I don't think I will ever tire of hearing. The NME wrote of their Reading appearance that the band lined up at the front of the stage looking like they were ready to take on everyone at the festival. I'd say they look ready to take on the world. Yeah, come on world, Bring It On!
