A trasporre sulla pellicola questo soggetto così interessante e veritiero è il regista <br /> <br /> Michael Winterbottom, che ha cominciato la sua carriera realizzando diversi documentari in Inghilterra, fino a dedicarsi al cinema realizzando film <br /> <br /> come “Benvenuti a Sarajevo” e diversi docu-dramma come “The Road to Guantanamo “ e “24 Hour Party people”. L’origine di Winterbottom è evidente anche <br /> <br /> in questo film, dove la maggior parte delle riprese, tutte registrare con la telecamera DV a mano dal direttore della fotografia Marcel Zyskind, <br /> <br /> coprono la lunghezza della scena e inoltre sono state girate tutte in sequenza. Per il regista il copione era il punto di partenza, ciò che gli premeva <br /> <br /> era catturare il momento, cercando, attraverso l’improvvisazione degli attori, di dare veridicità alla scena con un ritmo più naturale. E’ uno sguardo <br /> <br /> al fondamentalismo islamico che non deve marchiare un intero popolo, è uno sguardo scevro da ogni pregiudizio, perchè la violenza e l’efferatezza sono <br /> <br /> ovunque a prescindere dalla razza e dalla religione. E’ un’idea profonda e sentita, che ha permesso al regista di interpretare chiaramente lo spirito <br /> <br /> del libro e di rappresentare il “sentire” di Daniel Pearl, giornalista ebreo che ha sempre lottato per mantenersi libero da preconcetti e schieramenti. <br /> <br /> “Un cuore grande” in qualche modo però resta in superficie, registrando ciò che avviene senza schierarsi, tutto accade e tutto è ineluttabile. Another 1 win & 14 nominations Daniel Pearl was born of Jewish parents. His grandfather has a street named after him in Israel (Chaim Pearl St.). He fell in love with Cuban-American, Marianne, and both got married. One the places they chose for their honeymoon was Mumbai, India. Both worked as Journalists with the Wall Street Journal. They were amongst the thousands of reporters who headed to Afghanistan after September 11, 2001. After spending considerable time there, they then went to Pakistan, with a visibly pregnant Marianne, the country that on one hand was allied with the U.S. for it's 'war against terrorism', and on the other hand was responsible for the creation of Taliban and hosting training camps for Al Qaeda. The two hook-up with fellow-journalist Asra Nomani of Indian descent. When Daniel goes off to interview Sheikh Gilani and does not return nor answer his cell phone, a frantic Marianne asks for assistance, which comes forth initially in the shape and form of Pakistan's CID Chief Javed Habib, followed by FBI, and American embassy personnel. What results is media frenzy, the locals blaming the Mosaad for the September 11 attacks, as nearly 4000 Jews did not show up for work that day; that Daniel was CIA/Mosaad Agent, and that Asra was an Indian spy. The Pakistani Interior Minister went on record to criticize Daniel for probing into unknown territory, not keeping his Jewish background secret, and blaming his disappearance on Indian spies, while the western media quickly announced his death even though the deceased was an Iranian student.
