Babylon Whores is a death rock and metal band from Finland, founded in 1994 by Ike Vil and Ewo Meichem. As of 2006, the band has released two singles, three EPs and three albums. Throughout the years, the band's music has evolved from a raw, punk-ish style to a more massive sound with complex guitar melodies, often compared to such bands as Danzig and Mana Mana. Timo Rautiainen (b. January 25, 1963, in Sulkava, Finland) is a Finnish heavy metal singer, guitarist and songwriter. He is best known as the vocalist-guitarist of heavy metal band Timo Rautiainen & Trio Niskalaukaus. He has also played and sung in the bands Lyijykomppania and Aku Ankkuli and is also known as a teacher and a host of a culture-oriented talk show, K-Rappu.

After Timo Rautiainen & Trio Niskalaukaus announced in fall 2004 they would be going on a hiatus, Timo Rautiainen started to make plans for a solo album. After he had written some songs with his friend Jarkko Martikainen (from the finnish prog band, YUP), who had written and produced some songs for Trio Niskalaukaus, he gathered a band from his friends and top-of-the-line Finnish musicians.

This band included Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) from Nightwish, Nils Ursin (bass) from Trio Niskalaukaus, Jussi Lampi (drums) - though this towering man is better known as an actor, ex-Children of Bodom Alexander Kuoppala and a session guitarist Peter Engberg (guitars). The main difference between Trio Niskalaukaus and Rautiainen's solo is that Niskalaukaus' sound is very slow and heavy, driven with downtuned guitars and is almost devoid of guitar solos whereas his solo project's soundscape is much lighter, sometimes even sounding positive, and features in many songs very unorthodox instruments in metal music - mandolin and bouzouki. Some long and complex guitar solos can be heard too.

Timo Rautiainen has released two full-length albums;
Critically acclaimed Sarvivuori (26. Apr 2006) and the brand new Loppuun Ajettu (23. May 2007).

Compared to fellow Halifax [Nova Scotia, Canada] bands Sloan and the Super Friendz, Thrush Hermit is the only one that could be called a hard rock band. Their heavy guitar sound, wailing and pouty vocals, and obvious love for '70s album rock and punk sets them apart from the others — who are known for their melodies and wistful musings, not their aggression and raw energy.

Thrush Hermit was formed in 1992 by Joel Plaskett (vocals/guitar), Rob Benvie (guitar/keyboards/vocals), Ian McGettigan (bass/vocals), and Cliff Gibb (drums). After releasing several cassettes (Nobody Famous, John Boomer, Ammo) and a single, the band signed to Murderecords (Sloan, Super Friendz, Eric's Trip) and the Smart Bomb EP was released in 1994. Their second EP, The Great Pacific Ocean, followed in 1995, and the group appeared on the Mallrats soundtrack as well. Their first full-length, Sweet Homewrecker, was issued by Elektra in 1997, but the label dropped the band soon after the single "North Dakota" was released.

By 1999, Gibb had left and been replaced by Benn Ross, Thrush Hermit had signed to the Hamilton, Ontario, label Sonic Unyon, and Clayton Park was issued in February of that year. On September 21, 1999, the band announced its amicable split, but toured with the Flashing Lights and the Local Rabbits in the fall before they broke up permanently. -- Gina Boldman/Allmusic.com
